‘The Bachelor’s’ Sierra Shares How Moving to Korea After a Medical Scare Changed Her Life
Fans are getting to know Sierra on Clayton’s season of “The Bachelor” and watching their love story unfold.
But outside her time on “The Bachelor,” there’s still so much to learn about Sierra and her life before the show.
The Bachelor Nation star stopped by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast, where she opened up about a time in her life that changed her.
Sierra explained to co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo that her mom is from South Korea and was adopted as a child.
So after Sierra graduated from college, she moved to Korea to teach English and wanted to find her mom’s orphanage.
And while she said it was an incredible experience, that wasn’t Sierra’s original post-grad plan.
She revealed, “Before I moved to Korea, I was super materialistic. I wanted things and I wanted money and that was all that mattered to me. I had gone to school for marketing and sales and was very driven on success being material things. I had gotten really sick with sepsis and appendicitis my senior year. I almost died. It was really crazy.”
The Bachelor Nation star shared, “That was a wakeup call for me. It made me realize none of the material things mattered and that wasn’t my career path anymore. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew it wasn’t that. Money wasn’t important to me anymore.”

So she said she sold almost everything she owned except for what she could fit into two suitcases and moved into a tiny apartment in Korea.
Sierra revealed that she previously owned 48 pairs of shoes, tons of jewelry, and an absurd amount of clothes, but “got rid of basically everything.”
She said, “I moved over to Korea, found this cute, tiny apartment and just lived my best life. I got really deep into yoga. I grew so much in a lot of ways and realized what really mattered in life. That’s when I realized I wanted kids. I used to not want kids. I used to think I wanted to be like Samantha from ‘Sex and the City.’ But my experience teaching overseas made me realize how much I wanted kids and how much they taught me, even when we didn’t speak the same language.”
Sierra shared that she taught at multiple schools and got to travel to Japan and the Philippines while she was there. But most importantly, “I got to find my mom’s orphanage, where I got pamphlets and sent her updated pictures of what it looks like now. It was a really great experience.”
Sierra said she hopes to adopt a child from Korea one day, just like her mom was.
