Raven & Adam Gottschalk Reveal How Becoming Parents Has Changed Their Relationship, Plus: What Surprised Them Most About Birth
One whole month of pure baby bliss!
Bachelor Nation stars Raven Gates Gottschalk and Adam Gottschalk first fell in love on “Bachelor in Paradise,” but the love they felt for each other is nothing compared to the love they’ve experienced over the past month.
Raven, who first announced that she and Adam were expecting back in July, gave birth to Gates Zev Gottschalk on January 18, 2022, and the two have been head over heels in love with their new bundle of joy.

Amid Gates’ latest one-month milestone, Raven and Adam took a quick breather from feeding and diaper changing to answer burning fan questions submitted via Instagram.
They compiled some questions into a YouTube video and dished on their experience as first-time parents thus far.
When asked how they came up with the baby’s name, Adam revealed that the process began early on. “We were having dinner one night and trying to figure out what names work well,” adding, “I have a long, complicated last name.”
Raven recalled that the two were also “trying to take into consideration the names our families gave us,” but eventually it was Adam who suggested the name Gates.
He said, “I was like, ‘What about Gates?’ It pays tribute to your last name, it has good meaning, and Gates Gottschalk flows really well off the tongue.’”
And the rest is history!
It’s no question Raven and Adam’s lives changed tremendously since welcoming Gates, but when asked how a baby has affected their relationship, the two got extremely candid about their experience.
Adam said, “This is where your communication with your significant other needs to be very strong,” when Raven added that their roles within their relationship have changed above all else.
“Adam is going to work and I’m staying at home with the baby. He’s picked up being the housekeeper, more or less,” Raven explained. “For me, it’s really focusing more on the baby, whereas I would’ve been more focused on Adam and our relationship and going on dates.”
As Adam chimed in, it’s all about “give and take, getting into a routine, and trying to make the other person’s life a little bit easier.”
And while Raven admitted she isn’t ashamed of the scars left on her postpartum body, she did dish on what surprised her most about giving birth.
Raven has previously been open about her struggles with breastfeeding, and she revealed she never knew it would be her biggest challenge.
She said, “I knew how hard being a new mom would be, I knew how hard having a newborn would be, I knew how hard labor could be. I did not have a clue how bad I would struggle with breastfeeding.”
One thing she said she could always turn to in times of stress and difficulty, however, was simply seeing her baby’s face.
“Seeing his little face got me out of bad mindsets that I couldn’t do it anymore,” Raven said. “When I felt I couldn’t breastfeed anymore, I would look at him and think, ‘Okay, I can do 15 more minutes,’ or, ‘I can suck through the pain.’ It was just about looking at the baby. Those instincts are real!”
Raven and Adam truly do make a remarkable team, and we can’t wait to witness more of their major milestones as parents!
