EXCLUSIVE: Jason Tartick Shares Wedding Planning Updates, Plus: He Teases His Bachelor Nation Stories from His New Book
Bachelor Nation fans first met Jason Tartick on Season 14 of “The Bachelorette” and he’s come a long way since he first appeared on the show in 2018.
Jason has become an influential entrepreneur, podcaster, and author, with a book called “The Restart Roadmap” coming out next month.
He also famously found love off-screen with former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe and the two got engaged in May 2021.
Now, Jason is sitting down exclusively with BachelorNation.com to talk about everything from wedding planning to his book and everything in between. He even drops some incredible financial advice you’ll want to remember.
Check out Jason’s entire interview below!
Bachelor Nation: It’s been around four years since you appeared on “The Bachelorette.” What’s been the most surprising way your life has changed since the show?
Jason Tartick: Oh my gosh, it’s wild to think that it’s been four years. Time flies by! Going onto this show was something that everyone in my life advised me not to do. My parents, my friends, my family, my colleagues, almost every single person was like, “Don’t do it.” But for the first time in my 20s, I made a decision that was really against the blueprint of what you “should do” if you want to find success in the avenue that I was trying to find success in, which was corporate America. No one in a million years saw me as a reality TV guy, but making that one decision and taking a shot at something I just wanted to do for me changed every aspect of my life. It changed what I do, where I live, who I’m marrying, and it’s been wild.

BN: Well, we’re certainly glad you took the opportunity! You mentioned leaving corporate America. Do you have any role models you’ve looked up to since you left your corporate job to start your work as an entrepreneur?
JT: When looking at Bachelor Nation, when I got off of the show, one of the people I looked up to, ironically enough, was Kaitlyn. And I actually reached out to Kaitlyn after I got off the show. I just said that I was really confused at how this world works and she gave me some great advice through DMs, but at that time it was just strictly business. So Kaitlyn, Ben Higgins, and I would say Jillian Harris were the three people that when I got off the show I looked up to. I started looking at what they were doing and I was really impressed with the way that they created with their own brands and their companies outside of just what “The Bachelor” offers. And also, well before I went on the show, in the entrepreneurial world, I’ve been a fan of Gary Vaynerchuk for his progressive thinking, business development, and for challenging people to take a shot at their business dream.
BN: Those are some pretty incredible role models! Speaking of some of those Bachelor Nation alumni, you’ve had quite a few fellow Bachelor Nation stars on your podcast “Trading Secrets.” Who is a dream guest from Bachelor Nation that you haven’t already talked to that you’d love to have on “Trading Secrets”?
JT: I’ve got a few, all for very, very different reasons. I would love to have Sean Lowe, Andrew Firestone, Colton Underwood, and Jesse Palmer. They would all be my dream guests for all different reasons.
BN: Those would be some great episodes! What’s the most rewarding part of the work you do with your company Restart?
JT: The most rewarding part of starting this Restart community — which is really focused on career navigation, refinement, and financial literacy — has been to watch people grow and hear their stories every single day. I have connected with individuals who are now writing their own story financially and writing their own story professionally. So hearing the stories about them using tactics we’ve discussed to get their raise, or to start their side hustle, or to eliminate their debt, or regain financial independence has been so rewarding. For so long in my life, I was kind of letting my story be written for me professionally and then took a chance to write my own story, so to see people do it and hear from them has been amazing every day. And what’s really cool about the Restart community is on a weekly basis, we’re making over a million impressions. So a million eyeballs a week are seeing the work we’re doing. Inevitably, that’s leading to impact, which is just the most rewarding.

BN: It’s really amazing work you’re doing. Do you have a piece of financial advice you’ve either received or given that you can share?
JT: The best advice I have been given is the bedrock of all financial well-being: debt management, and that came from my grandfather. You can use debt in so many ways. It can absolutely bury you or it could be used really correctly and can help you grow at a rate you never imagined. He said that the bedrock of finances starts with debt management and that’s the best advice I received. And I think the advice that I’ve given that has really resonated with people is this theory of behavioral-based budgeting. Budgeting is critically important, but I also suggest looking at your last three statements of your credit card expenses and going through the line items for 30 minutes. Yes, you’re gonna see dollars and transactions, but the amount you can learn about the psychology of you as a person is incredible. Do some digging within to see where you’re spending, and more importantly, why you’re spending money on those things. It’s amazing that you can really fill in some gaps for improvement and you start to learn a little bit about yourself. When I first had this realization, I looked at the amount I was spending at bars and it was insane. And I start thinking about how I wasn’t drinking that much, but I was the guy out there that’s literally trying to be the people’s champion and buy drinks for everybody. I started to learn a little about myself and ask why I was doing that, what was going on, and if there was maybe some deep-rooted insecurities involved. Now, I’ve been able to assess myself in a way much greater than finance that’s going to allow me to kind of plug some of the gaps and work on myself. If you look at what you’re spending money on — maybe it’s like a bag or a certain watch or shirt, ask if you are doing that for yourself. And if you are, that’s great, but are you doing it to impress someone else? If so, that could end up being an endless pit. So behavioral-based budgeting helps your finances and it helps with self-development.

BN: That’s some really great advice! Is there any more advice like that in your new book or any other tidbits from it you’d like to share?
JT: Yes! It’s an eight-step process with every single chapter having actionable takeaways and a checklist form that you can execute to start making the changes that you always dreamed to do. And there is some “Bachelor” insight in there too! You see so many people that go on this show and you see their careers shift. There’s always a question of how people manage that, and in this book, I share my entire story from the actual request to my boss to go on the show, the pre-negotiations we had to complete, what it was like coming back from the show, all the way to an ultimatum that I was given. The ultimatum was either restart your entire career with us or no more podcasts, no more side hustle, no more media, no more marketing, or go restart on your own. And I ended up making the decision to restart on my own and create a business called Restart to help others do the same. And interestingly enough, there is a very strong “Bachelor” connection as to why I was put into that ultimatum. I won’t say any more for now, but that story is told in the book!
BN: Oh, that’s a good tease! We’ll have to read it to find out that connection. Speaking of teases, how is wedding planning going? I know you guys originally teased it would be later this year possibly?
JT: There’s a funny behind-the-scenes story with that! I got a link sent to me by my brother and that link said, “Jason and Kaitlin getting married October 2022.” And he said, “Thanks for the invite.” So I actually had no idea she said that in an interview and I don’t know what that timeline was. But the reality of the situation is that Kaitlyn gets back from tour later this month. We finally just got our wedding planner locked in. I don’t think I’ve talked about this anywhere, but our wedding planner is the same wedding planner that Ashley [Iaconetti] and Jared [Haibon] used. They introduced us to him. We were at their wedding and so impressed by it. So our next step is venue shopping. When Kaitlyn gets back, we’re going to start looking at venues and then I think we’ll pick a date. The only issue with fall 2022 would be that so many COVID weddings got pushed back, so I have a feeling the venues that we have our eye on aren’t going to be available. But if they are available, we’d be down for it! I just don’t see it happening. Early 2023 is my prediction, but we’ll see once we go venue seeking!

BN: Very exciting! We can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. It’s going to be such a beautiful day. Will there be any Bachelor Nation alum invited to the wedding or even in the wedding party?
JT: Absolutely, there will be a lot of Bachelor Nation people at the wedding! Everyone from production to our friends that are near and dear to our story will be there. They’ve all been a big part of our journey. Honestly, without the Bachelor franchise and Bachelor Nation both on Kaitlyn’s end and my end, there’s no way that the pieces would’ve fallen into place that we would’ve met one another. So the whole wedding is because of the show. We’ll have to see about the wedding parties. I’m undecided on if anyone from Bachelor Nation will be in my wedding party. I do think Kaitlyn is pretty decided about a few Bachelor Nation people that will be in her wedding party, but I’ll let her tell that. But yeah, I have a feeling there’ll be a ton of Bachelor Nation people and some of Kaitlyn’s “Dancing with the Stars” friends at the wedding. It’s going to make for one hell of a dance floor!
BN: How exciting! Sounds like it’ll be a real party! We can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. Good luck with everyone and keep us posted on your planning!
JT: Will do! Thank you, as always, Bachelor Nation!
