Michelle Young Reveals If It Was Awkward Running Into Her Ex Matt James with Their New Partners
While Bachelor Nation fans fell in love with Michelle Young from Season 18 of “The Bachelorette,” she first appeared on our screens on Season 25 of “The Bachelor.”
Michelle might have been one of the late arrivals on Matt’s season, but that didn’t stop their connection from growing to be one of the strongest on the show.
Michelle was the runner-up on Matt’s season before her time as the Bachelorette, and now, she just ran into her ex for the first time since filming.
If you follow Michelle on social media, you saw that she posted a video with her fiancé Nayte Olukoya, Matt, and his girlfriend Rachael Kirkconnell.
Nayte and Michelle ran into Matt and Rachael at the women’s Final Four March Madness game in Minnesota.
Now on this week’s episode of the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast, Michelle got real with her co-host Becca Kufrin about whether this run-in was awkward.
Michelle started off by sharing how surprised she was to see Matt and Rachael at the game, saying, “It was unexpected to run into them! You know when you expect to run into one of your exes at some point. It’s inevitable that after you break up, down the line you can run back into them. I always knew that there would come a time when Matt and I would cross paths again. Rachael and I also still catch up sometimes, so we aren’t completely disconnected.”
But of all places to run into her ex, Michelle didn’t think she’d see him in her home state.
She said, “But I was really surprised that we ran into them in Minnesota. That is the last place I thought we’d bump into them. We’ve been in New York and L.A. so much that we thought those were the places we might see them, so it caught me off guard to see them in Minnesota. “
The former Bachelorette said it must’ve caught fans off guard too because everyone whipped out their phones and cameras to snap pictures of the interaction.
But despite the surprise, Michelle said it was actually great to see them and wasn’t weird at all.
She said, “We were all laughing. It was fun! And Nayte gets along with everybody, so it wasn’t awkward or anything like that.”

Becca chimed in, sharing that in the Bachelor Nation world, it isn’t typically awkward to run into your exes because so many of them run in the same circles after the show.
But both she and Michelle laughed about how they sometimes forget Michelle was on Matt’s season.
She’s come such a long way since then, and both Matt and Michelle found love from their own seasons!
Well, we love to hear that the unexpected run-in went well and that it wasn’t awkward for any of them. It’s always fun to see Bachelor Nation reunions!
