Deandra Kanu Shares Advice for Finding Love and Not Comparing Yourself to Others: ‘Run Your OWN Race’
Bachelor Nation fans first met Deandra Kanu on Season 24 of “The Bachelor,” and she went on to appear on Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Since her time on the shows, Deandra has been keeping her hundreds of thousands of followers updated with her life on social media.
This week, Deandra took to Instagram and asked her followers if they needed advice on anything and dished out some words of wisdom.
One fan said they’ve been “struggling with constantly comparing myself to other women my age,” and Deandra shared her thoughts.
She wrote, “Welcome to my world, the world (on Instagram especially) will give you access to people your age who are more attractive, more successful, and happier than you (or at least you think). You just have to remind yourself that without that internet, you wouldn’t be comparing as much because it wouldn’t be right in front of you.”

Deandra continued, “Run your OWN race because comparison doesn’t bring you their life/relationship/finances, only your own actions will. To start, I would just unfollow anyone on social media who doesn’t serve you mentally.”
And then the Bachelor Nation star continued with a list of four questions to ask yourself when you start to compare yourself to others.
She wrote “1. The girl’s body that you envy: are you willing to get that BBL or boob job? 2. The actress you envy: are you willing to go to acting classes and grind everyday until you’ve made it? 3. The girl with “no job” that travels: are you willing to sacrifice your morals to rely on men to find your lifestyle? 4. That bottle girl you envy: are you willing to work two jobs and be in the club from Tuesday to Sunday and mess up your sleep schedule?”
Deandra said that “if the answer is no” to any of those questions “you’re running the right race for YOURSELF.”
And since Deandra’s advice was so on point, more and more of her followers started rolling in with their questions.
One person asked for advice on losing and finding love in your 20s.
Deandra got candid with her answer and said, “I’m 25 and anytime I express heartbreak to someone, their response is always ‘You’re so young, you have so much time.’ It may feel like the end of the earth now, but really try to put into perspective that there is no right or wrong time to find your person.”
She also shared some dating advice, saying, “Don’t let old flings/old love linger too long because it just blocks anything new and fresh from forming in your life. And don’t look for love. It won’t find you when you chase it. Look at everything else, that’s usually when it catches you!”
Deandra shared that she may want to start doing advice Q&A’s weekly based on the overwhelming response of questions.
We hope she keeps sharing her words of wisdom each week! For now, check out our exclusive interview with Deandra here.
