Lesley Murphy Reflects On Her Double Mastectomy 5 Years Later in New Post: ‘Advocate for Yourself Always!’
Bachelor Nation fans first met Lesley Murphy on Season 17 of “The Bachelor,” and she returned to our screens for “Bachelor Winter Games.”
Since her time on the shows, Lesley has kept fans updated with her life, including motherhood, her relationship, and more on social media.
She’s also been extremely candid about getting a preventive double mastectomy after finding out she was a carrier of the BRCA cancer gene.
After watching her mother survive breast cancer, Lesley got the genetic test and tested positive for the BRCA mutation.

She made the decision to have a preventive double mastectomy, which reduces the risk of developing breast cancer by 90 to 95 percent.
Now, Lesley is celebrating five years since her surgery in a new post.
The Bachelor Nation star started off with an excerpt from her blog after her surgery, writing, “I’ve come to terms with the fact that I no longer have a body part that has grown with me since birth. Think about that. My boobs have literally grown with me and have seen me at my good, my bad and my ugly.”
She continued, “We’ve quite literally had our ups and our downs as we traveled through junior high puberty, high school inferiority, college, and on to adult-life settlement. Hell, maybe it’s a good thing they’re gone! Time to start over with a clean (read: flat and scar-filled) slate. To all my 2nd base boys, it was a pleasure.”

And then Lesley went on, saying, “The above is an excerpt from my first blog post after my preventative double mastectomy, and today marks 5 years since saying goodbye to my boobs. Honestly, I don’t miss them.”
Lesley wrote about the photos she shared with her post, saying, “I was never attached to them and really do love the ‘new’ girls. I guess they aren’t so new being 5 years old, but now they feel like they’ve been a part of me forever. Today, we hiked one of my favorite hikes in the whole world with @limitlestravel Chile. I feel so honored to have hiked 14 miles with breast cancer survivor and friend @alliemenchel. I’ll let this photo tell you how it ended. What a way to spend my 5 year mastectoversary.”

We know that Lesley continuing to be so candid about her journey will help so many others.
