The queen of pop culture herself, Amanda Hirsch, aka NotSkinnyButNotFat, stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast this week!

If you aren’t familiar with Amanda, she has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media, where she covers pop culture, has a podcast, shares her life as a mom, and more!

And on “Click Bait,” Amanda discussed all things entertainment, how she grew her platform, and whether she was nervous interviewing reality TV royalty Kim Kardashian earlier this year.

Amanda started off by telling co-hosts Joe Amabile, Natasha Parker, and Tia Booth about how she got started with her Instagram page and podcast.

She said, “It’s been pretty wild. I started this podcast in 2016, going on six years. Today with TikTok and stuff, people will go to someone’s page and see they have some followers and assume it’s an overnight thing. For me, I’m super #blessed, but I’ve also been grinding for six years. I really did start from zero followers and just had my family follow me and told them to like my posts.”

Amanda said her social media growth was slow but organic, and she started with just memes on her page in 2016, which she said was “the beginning of people doing things on Instagram that weren’t just pictures of themselves.”

She saw an opportunity to cover pop culture in a funny way and didn’t realize her followers would be as obsessed with it as she was.

And while her growth was slow at first, she said it’s never been about a number of followers for her; this has truly always been her passion.

“For me, it’s not ever been really about numbers, and I think that’s helped me and it’s helped shape the community I built. For a while, this was just my hobby and I was working two jobs. I never expected to make money off of it,” Amanda shared.

She continued on, saying, “But the one thing I kept telling myself is that something was bound to come out of it. Whether that was a job opportunity or making new connections, something will happen because I’m pouring my heart and soul into it and I love it so much.”

Over time, Amanda grew her platform to what it is today, and by August 2020, she said she was able to quit her other jobs and work as a full-time content creator.

Eventually, Amanda’s dreams became a reality when the people she covered online started to come to her for exclusive interviews, like the Kardashians.

Last month, Amanda sat down for an interview with Kim Kardashian on her podcast “Not Skinny But Not Fat” and she also interviewed the entire Kardashian/Jenner family at “The Kardashians” Hulu premiere.

Joe asked Amanda if she was nervous to interview Kim, and it was actually her years of fandom that helped her remain calm.

Amanda said, “Somehow at that moment I wasn’t nervous. I don’t know how. I brought my sister with me, and we filmed it at the KKW headquarters. I went to the bathroom with my sister and she was freaking out. I was like ‘No, that’s not the vibe.’ My point was that if I was going to be there and do what I was brought there to do, I can’t be crazy. I need to be there to interview Kim.”

The podcaster explained why she was able to keep her cool, saying, “I feel like when you interview someone you don’t know anything about, that’s when you’re nervous. But I was interviewing somebody I could literally write a biography on. I think that’s why the nerves weren’t there. I was so confident in knowing what I wanted to ask and I knew what the audience wanted because I am the audience. I knew that I deserved to be there. I wasn’t chosen by mistake.”

And Amanda was right! The interview raked in millions of listens and counting across podcasting and social media platforms.
