Becca Kufrin & Katie Maloney Discuss Their Shared Experience of Going Through Public Breakups
Katie Maloney is stopping by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast!
Fans know Katie from the show “Vanderpump Rules,” which she’s starred on for almost an entire decade.
Katie and her ex-husband Tom Schwartz announced they filed for divorce earlier this year after 12 years together and three years of marriage.
Now, as she goes through a breakup in the public eye, Katie bonded with “Bachelor Happy Hour” co-host Becca Kufrin about going through a public breakup.
As Bachelor Nation fans recall, Becca called off her engagement with Garrett Yrigoyen after over two years together.
Katie shared her experience with a public breakup, saying, “Once I finally realized that this was something I had to do for myself because I wanted to be happy, the thing I was scared of the most became a gift and an opportunity. I was no longer scared of it. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t sad or heartbreaking because it 100% is, it gutted me, but leaning in and trusting myself helped me nurture my relationship with myself. I took care of myself the most.”

And Becca chimed in opening up about her breakup and how she could relate to what Katie was feeling.
The former Bachelorette said, “I can speak from experience going through a very public breakup. Breakups are never easy and no one wants that. Heartbreak is heartbreak whether you’re in the public eye or not, that part is already difficult. It was so difficult to go through my personal breakup.”
Becca went on saying, “Before we even announced it, everyone thought they were entitled to know exactly what was going on day by day and I was still trying to process it on my own, let alone figure out how I was going to let the world know. It’s a really scary thing. You feel like you’re jumping off a ledge.”
And Katie agreed saying how that experience can be really challenging, but the two women also agreed that there is a sense of relief in sharing the truth.

Katie said, “I felt a huge sense of relief because everything I had been doing, I no longer had to do anymore. I didn’t have to be concerned and live before someone else. I got to live for myself and wake up and do what I want each day. I no longer needed the validation of another person and I didn’t have to worry about someone else. I was bogged down by a relationship that wasn’t serving me anymore.”
And while it took time, Katie said that she didn’t care what the public thought about her relationship ending.
She said, “I had to train myself over the years to really not give a f*ck what the public thinks. That doesn’t mean I don’t ever think about it, but when it came to this, I knew people were going to have opinions and it doesn’t matter what anyone else has to say about it. This is ultimately my life.”
