Evan Bass Reveals What Led to His Divorce from Carly Waddell, Plus: How He’s Healing After Their Split
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans know Evan Bass from Season 12 of “The Bachelorette” and Season 3 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
The father of five has three sons with his first wife — Ensley, Liam, and Nathan — and two children with Carly Waddell.
Carly and Evan, who found love in “Paradise,” announced their divorce in December 2020, but they continue to co-parent their daughter Bella and son Charlie.
Now, the father of five is stopping by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” to discuss his divorce with Carly and how he’s been healing since their split.
He candidly said, “I’m not out of it. I still feel emotional, and it’s hard talking about it. It’s a deep sadness still. I don’t know if you ever heal perfectly. The scars and wounds heal, but they stay there to teach out. So I’m trying my best.”

And Evan shared that he’s been working through the split in therapy, saying, “I have done a ton of therapy. I have been doing therapy for years, but I’ve really made sure it’s every week and I did every kind of therapy. I did talk therapy, hypnotherapy, EMDR, and all kinds of therapy.”
Along with his mental health, Evan said he’s been focusing on his physical health as well.
The Bachelor Nation star said, “So I dove into that and I also got physically healthy. I just started beasting out as much as a father of five can. I started bringing my kids with me to the gym to work out and focused on healthy eating. I just wanted to make sure that I had as much of a chance to rebound as quickly as I could.”
He went on, “I’ve been divorced twice. I remember growing up in a super religious background where being married multiple times was looked down upon, and now I’m that guy. It’s sobering, it’s terrible, and embarrassing on a level. But also, Salvador Dalí said, ‘Every mistake is of a sacred nature,’ and to understand them thoroughly. While I don’t think my marriages were a mistake, it’s the same principle. I just wanted to understand how it all happened and why it ended. I thought about what my part in that was and how I can learn and grow from it as a person.”
Co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo asked Evan about what led to his divorce with Carly and he was honest with his answer.
Evan said that while “Bachelor in Paradise” is his favorite show and what he created there with Carly was “so beautiful,” their foundation wasn’t strong enough when leaving the beach.

He explained, “When we left, we weren’t able to set a proper foundation. ‘Paradise’ gives you a kind of foundation, but there is nothing else going on and you only have to focus on your relationship. You talk about real life stuff and it was really genuine, but when you get out, the transition was where we missed on some things. We didn’t communicate about our values and just communication in general. Figuring out how to work through life, I have other children that aren’t with Carly. So there was just a lot to work through and I don’t think we set the foundation in the way that we should have.”
We’re continuing to wish both Carly and Evan the best as they navigate this new chapter of their lives.
