Caila Quinn Reflects on Learning from the ‘Snakegate’ Controversy
Bachelor Nation fans first met Caila Quinn Burrello on Season 20 of “The Bachelor,” and she went on to appear on Season 3 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Since her time on the shows, Caila has been keeping her hundreds of thousands of fans updated with her life on social media.
She recently moved from New York City to Austin, Texas, with her husband Nick Burrello and the two became first-time homeowners.
Earlier this year, Caila faced criticism from some fans online after she posted a video on her Instagram Stories of someone killing a snake that was found in her yard.
Now, Caila is stopping by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast, where she discusses the incident and shares her sincere apologies.
The Bachelor Nation star started off by saying, “I should not have posted that in the first place. I should not have done that or reacted that way, and I take complete responsibility. I feel horrible for that entire situation. It even gives me anxiety thinking about it. I just did the wrong thing. Sometimes the lines are blurred on social media and I think I posted in the moment and then felt horrible.”

Caila explained that she was a New York City girl getting used to life in the suburbs and was adjusting to the wildlife in Texas. She noted that she and Nick have had two rattlesnakes on their property since moving in and she almost stepped on one once, which caused severe anxiety and a panic attack.
So she shared with co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo, “There was a lot of fear built up in my body that made me react in the wrong way and I completely apologize. The other two snakes, we relocated humanely. But that one in the backyard, we had just gotten a puppy and I was really afraid that he would think it’s okay to play with. There are snakes that are deadly, but I 100 percent reacted in the wrong way and shouldn’t have posted it. I am really sorry. I wish I could take it back.”
And while Caila knows that there isn’t an excuse for her actions, she revealed why she posted the video in the first place.
“Nothing justifies it, but the reason I posted it was because I never want to be the girl who makes my life look perfect. I try and post the real-life stuff and the raw stuff. I post with no makeup or I post whatever is happening at our house, like we just had a house flood. I haven’t even said this yet, but a car crashed into our house two weeks into owning it,” the Bachelor Nation star said.

She went on, saying, “Being a new homeowner and dealing with transitions in life, it’s not always perfect and sometimes you make mistakes. I definitely made a mistake, and it won’t happen again.”
And thankfully, Caila said she had her husband by her side to help her work through the criticism she faced after posting the video.
She said, “My husband is the most supportive man in the entire world and I’m so lucky that I have him as a shoulder to lean on. He was there when it happened and he is barely on Instagram, so he didn’t see it until later. We talked through why I shouldn’t have posted it, and he was there to help me through it. I can say I’m sorry and move on with my life. I’m not a horrible person because I really did internalize that.”
