Cam Ayala Discusses the Recovery Timeline After His Leg Amputation Surgery
Bachelor Nation fans first met Cam Ayala on Season 15 of “The Bachelorette,” and he went on to appear on Season 6 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Since his time on the shows, Cam has been keeping fans updated with his life on social media, where he is extremely open about his journey with lymphedema, both as a patient and an advocate.
Earlier this week, Cam took to Instagram to share that his condition became so serious that one of his legs needed to be amputated.
He’s been sharing his journey as an amputee and the recovery process on social media, and he also just stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast to discuss his healing.
Co-hosts Natasha Parker and Tia Booth asked Cam about the healing process and when he will be able to get his prosthetic leg.

Cam said, “On a high level, once you have the actual surgical procedure, on average it takes patients anywhere from two to four weeks for the wound to heal. You can’t start getting fitted for the prosthetic until the base of the wound is healed. That’s where you put most of your weight, here on my nub. Once they have the stitches out, it takes about two weeks to get a temporary prosthesis, kind of like a loaner leg, if you will.”
He explained, “That way they can see how the bone is fitting inside the socket to make sure you’re not getting any pressure blisters or anything like that. Once they are confident about the fit, they do another casting where they get all the fiber-optic material and they sent that off. The whole process from start to finish takes about two months before getting your leg. So I am hoping that by mid-September around my birthday that I’ll have my new leg.”
And while he’s just starting his healing journey, Cam set a goal for later this year that is helping him on the road to recovery.

The Bachelor Nation star shared, “I did something kind of aggressive in my pre-surgery manic behavior. I am obsessed with Lauren Daigle, the singer, and I saw that she is doing a short little tour.”
He continued on, saying, “I’ve never seen her live, but she’s performing at Red Rocks in Colorado on September 21st, so that is going to be my milestone that I’m going to work my tail off for in physical therapy. I want to be there to see her front row! Tickets are purchased, so I’m not going to look back. Hopefully it’s a beautiful moment where I can have my first concert back with Ms. Daigle.”
Love that! We are continuing to think of Cam on his road to recovery and keeping him in our thoughts.
