‘The Bachelorette’s’ Roby Discusses His Magic Career, Plus: His Bachelor Nation Connections
Dishing on all things “Bachelorette”!
Bachelor Nation fans met Roby on the season premiere of Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia’s season of “The Bachelorette.”
Despite bringing the magic (literally), there wasn’t any magic between Roby and either of the Bachelorettes, so he was sent home.
The magician is now stopping by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast, where he is opening up about his experience on the show and how he got into his career as a magician.
Roby talked to co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo about being the first magician on a Bachelor franchise show, saying, “I think I am the first Bachelor Nation magician. I was rewatching episodes from a few seasons back and some guy came out in a straitjacket. I was like ‘Dang it, another magician!’ But then he just stayed in the straitjacket all night.”

Roby also opened up about how he got started in magic and the incredible opportunities it’s brought him.
He said, “Everybody received a box of magic as a child and the magicians are those who couldn’t put that box away. We have all received a trick bag or magic toys as a kid, but I just continued with it my entire life. I’ve always loved it. It was a hobby and a passion and it somehow turned into a job. I have had wonderful opportunities because of magic. I’ve gotten to travel around the world and perform in amazing places.”
Roby went on, sharing, “I got to work with David Blaine and go on a national tour with him. I got to do some movie consulting for magic. I was a consultant for the latest Harley Quinn movie.”
How cool!
Mike and Bryan asked how he knew when he wanted to pursue magic as a career, not just as a hobby.
Roby said, “It was a slow progression and buildup. When you start, regardless of your career path, everyone feels unsure. But suddenly you have a moment where you have more ‘I knows’ rather than ‘I don’t knows.’ It’s not instantaneous, but all those times connecting together, you practice and gain confidence.”
And while we got to meet him on Season 19 of “The Bachelorette,” Roby said he was originally contacted about Season 17.

Unfortunately, he said COVID got in the way of him going on Katie Thurston’s season, but he thinks he might have had a better connection with Katie than he did with Gabby and Rachel.
He said, “Honestly, maybe Katie and my personalities would’ve meshed better. I feel like we are closer in the type of humor we have and our thoughts on the world, from what I know. I haven’t met her, though, so I can’t say for sure.”
And while Katie is single now, Roby has no plans of trying to pursue a relationship with her.
He actually was connected with Katie’s ex John Hersey by a family friend and John gave Roby some advice before going on this season of “The Bachelorette.”
Small world!
