Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans saw Johnny get candid about his mental health and struggles with depression during his one-on-one date with Gabby on last night’s episode of “The Bachelorette.”
During their date, the two related to each other about their mental health struggles, and it strengthened their bond and relationship.
Now, Johnny stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast, where he opened up about everything from going to therapy to how it felt to feel seen by Gabby during their date.

Johnny started off by sharing how he has coped with depression in the past, saying, “My mom is a huge person for me in my life. Any time I am feeling these things, I bounce it off my mom and we talk. She has been a huge tool. When I feel down and depressed, I am able to speak to her.”
He went on, “And I am not afraid to seek help. I’ve seen therapists, and it’s a huge help. It’s a tool that I’m trying to use more and more as I get older. I just don’t care what people think. Get the help you need and you’ll feel 100 times better. There are reasons why we feel like this and sometimes they’re underlying, so we don’t always know why. There are people out there who can help.”
Johnny revealed how therapy has helped him in his dating life, adding, “For the longest time, I kept things bottled up and it has ruined relationships, and I just feel so much better now that I can take care of myself and not care what people think.”
And he opened up about how having these kinds of conversations strengthened his relationship with Gabby.

Johnny said, “I learned on the show that vulnerability is something I really look for in a relationship. I am not super vulnerable naturally, so it was hard for me to get there and it’s something I’m still working on. I think there is a whole process to falling in love. You have to build that connection and friendship and then get vulnerable with someone so they can see all of you. I was trying to go through the process with Gabby.”
Co-hosts Becca Kufrin and Michelle Young asked Johnny what it was like getting to share so openly with Gabby and what it meant to him to have her reciprocate and share her experience.
Johnny said, “It was amazing getting to share that with Gabby. I was just trusting the process and it made me realize that this could be real. There is potential. It is something that I had never done with anyone, so it put her in the light even more for me. The fact that she reciprocated, I realized that there were other people out there who feel the same. It felt really good. She has made me a whole different person.”
