Clayton Echard Opens Up About Body Dysmorphia in Vulnerable New Post
Sharing his story.
On Clayton Echard’s season of “The Bachelor,” fans saw him open up to his women on a group date about his body dysmorphia.
The former Bachelor shared that his struggles with body dysmorphia started around seventh grade when his friends would constantly make comments about his body, saying it was “weird” or that he “looked fat” despite how much he worked out.
Now, Clayton is getting vulnerable in a new Instagram post with a photo from that chapter in his life.
Alongside an old photo of himself, Clayton wrote, “Body dysmorphia is a tricky matter. We see what others don’t, but can’t seem to convince our minds otherwise. I remember seeing this picture back when it was first taken and being ashamed of how my body looked. I thought my stomach area/sides looked fat.”

Clayton went on, saying, “I look at it now and see a kid that was skinny and could have benefited from putting on some good weight. But back then, my eyes saw differently. And now today, I sometimes see myself in the mirror and feel that I could benefit from losing weight.”
And the former Bachelor got candid about how while he’s come a long way, he still struggles sometimes.
Clayton shared, “No matter if I gain or lose, the body dysmorphia persists. It feels like a game I can’t win. I’ve tried to beat it over the years by amassing as much muscle as I can, while cutting body fat. I’ve even gotten down to 10.9% body fat and still thought I was fat! Not even the numbers can convince me.”
Thankfully, Clayton is in a much better place now and hopes sharing his story will help others.

He wrote, “I’ve learned to better manage BD. I’m not sure it’s something you ever truly overcome but, I’m holding out hope. I know where I must get to: to love my body for what it was, is and will be. I hope to see that day, but until then, I wish to share my story with you all…to use my voice to help someone else find theirs…”
Fans flooded the comments of Clayton’s post thanking him for his honesty and vulnerability.
One person wrote, “Thank you for posting this. We don’t see enough men talking about this. I have the same feelings looking at old photos. It’s so tricky and makes it hard to accept love when it’s hard to love your own body.”
And another chimed in, saying, “Thanks for giving voice to the countless men, such as myself, that deal with body dysmorphia. So brave to speak publicly about this. We are with you.”
We are sending Clayton love, and we know that him sharing his journey so openly will help so many others.
