Zach Shallcross Shares His Initial Reaction to Being Chosen as Bachelor: ‘I Thought They F*cked Up’

Bachelor Nation fans are watching Zach Shallcross’ journey to find love unfold each week on Season 27 of “The Bachelor.”
Now, the leading man stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast for a special live episode co-hosted by Bachelor Nation fan-favorite couple Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt.
Joe and Serena asked Zach what his initial reaction was when he got the call about being the Bachelor for this season.
Zach was honest with his answer, saying, “‘Why me?’ is immediately where my mind went to. I thought it was a typo or something in the email. It was pure shock. I left last season and wanted to be with family to get away from everything. When I was asked about the Bachelor opportunity, I was really shocked.”

Zach went on, saying, “I didn’t know what to expect and I was still trying to figure out life after last season. I was honored and grateful, but was it for real? But it wasn’t for several weeks or months after until it became official. It was really pure shock and I thought they f*cked up.”
Serena asked Zach why he was so shocked, with Joe adding that he’s an attractive guy, so he shouldn’t be surprised!
Zach said, “I didn’t even think I was going to be on ‘The Bachelorette.’ A friend nominated me, and I was like, ‘Sure, we’ll see what happens,’ but I really didn’t think it was going to happen. I think that was a lot of my own doubt playing in about myself and my own self-confidence. I had that still seep through for ‘The Bachelor’ and thought that could not be me. Whether that was true or not, that’s what my mind was on.”

But once he accepted the opportunity and started to lean in, both Zach and his family were really excited.
He said, “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and my family, especially my sisters and my mom, are diehard fans of the show. They are loving it all more than I am. I don’t even watch myself on TV and they are so excited about every date. It is a really cool experience to see them so happy. That’s kind of changed over the past couple weeks. My family has been big fans of the show and they’ve loved it, but now they have to watch me be in the hot tubs and taking showers.”
