Bachelor Nation fans watched Clayton Echard and Rachel Recchia’s extremely emotional breakup on Season 26 of “The Bachelor.”

Rachel went on to be the Bachelorette on Season 19, but now, both she and Clayton find themselves single again.

Last month, Rachel took to TikTok and posted a video with her Bachelor Nation BFF Michelle Young and Clayton.

The video of Rachel and Clayton sitting together on the couch raked in over 1.7 million views and counting.

Fans immediately started to wonder if this meant Rachel and Clayton could be getting back together.

But in a recent interview with Us Weekly, Clayton set the record straight once and for all about the future of his relationship with Rachel.

The former Bachelor started off by saying, “Rachel and I met up after not talking to each other for an entire year and our conversation was so powerful. I walked away from that experience and it felt so rewarding. I was so happy to know that even someone like her, after everything that happened and everyone was mad at me, but no one could be more mad at me than her, so for her to forgive me, that was one of the best things I could’ve heard.”

Clayton went on, sharing, “It made me realize that if she can forgive me, she’s one of two people that wouldn’t have any reason to. If she can, then everything that I’ve done is forgivable and I can grow from this. I can now allow myself to forgive myself.”

And Clayton understands where fans are coming from when it comes to fans wanting them to rekindle their romantic relationship.

He said, “People got to know me and then she got her own season with Gabby and people got to know us both. They like this person and they like this person, so they wanted to see it work. People who get so invested in the show, they experience a little bit of trauma while they watch it because it reminds them of their past. That’s why you see all this emotion online. Part of the healing process for some people, they say to make it all make sense it would be really great to see Rachel and Clayton get back together, then we can all be happy.”

But fanfare aside, he shared why it’s best for him and Rachel to just be friends.

Clayton said, “The reality is that we have very high thoughts about each other and of course after what happened, how would we ever go about dating again? She doesn’t have any interest in doing so and on my end after everything we went through, just being friends sounds very pleasant. Let’s just keep it at that. There was so much that went on, so I think it’s better that we just start from a clean slate.”
