Gabi Reveals Why She Didn’t Self-Eliminate: ‘Kaity Would Have Felt Like the Choice by Default’
Getting candid.
Bachelor Nation fans saw Zach Shallcross propose to Kaity Biggar after a heartbreaking split with Gabi Elnicki on the Season 27 finale of “The Bachelor.”
During the last few episodes of the season, Gabi expressed that her gut feeling was telling her that Zach was in love with someone else, but she decided to stay and not self-eliminate.
Now, Gabi stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast and opened up about how her decision to stay had everything to do with her friendship with Kaity.
Gabi told co-host Joe Amabile, “During that Rose Ceremony when he was only speaking to Kaity and he wasn’t making eye contact with me, it was a really isolating feeling. In that moment, I knew it was not me. Anyone who loved me and wanted it to be me wouldn’t speak of something that was a special moment in that way.”
She continued, “I understand that he was speaking about his parameters and the mistake he made by setting that parameter, however, there was a level of the words being really mean. Why was he saying those words? It was so mean, so I knew it was not me.”
She went on, explaining how she got caught up in her emotions when meeting Zach’s family during their last date.
Gabi said, “When I met his family, I felt so much love, but I think I was craving my family so badly and I just wanted to be home with the people I loved. I could feel the love in his family. They are really close, and it reminded me so much of my family and I felt very in love in that moment. I don’t know if I was just so craving my family that I just needed any kind of love. On that day on the beach, I knew for sure it wasn’t me, and I said that.”
And while in her gut she knew Zach would be proposing to Kaity, not her, she revealed why she decided to stay and not self-eliminate.

Gabi said, “I also thought about my friendship with Kaity and I have hesitated saying this, but I think it is important to know why I did stay. I thought about my relationship with Kaity and if I were in her shoes. It was clear that Kaity was his choice, she had been his choice, but if I had left, she could’ve felt like she was the choice by default and she was truly his choice.”
She continued, saying, “I never wanted her to feel like I left so he had to choose her. He was always choosing Kaity. The only reason I would’ve left was because I knew he was choosing Kaity, but I didn’t want her to feel any kind of doubt when he proposed to her and she watched it all back.”
Joe commended her, saying that’s a sign of a very good person and friend to think about others before herself.
