Carly Waddell Reveals If Her New Album Is About Her Divorce from Evan Bass
Opening up.
Fans first met Bachelor Nation star Carly Waddell on Season 19 of “The Bachelor,” and she returned to our screens for Seasons 2 and 3 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Carly found love in “Paradise” and got engaged to fellow Bachelor Nation star Evan Bass. The two got married on Season 4 of “Paradise” and welcomed two children together during their marriage.
In December 2020, the couple announced their decision to split, and they’ve been co-parenting their kids Bella and Charlie ever since.
Now, as Carly gears up to release brand-new music, she stopped by the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast and discussed whether her new music is about her ex.

Co-hosts Aaron Clancy, Jill Chin, and Mari Pepin asked Carly about her music and whether any of her upcoming songs are about her divorce.
Carly got candid, saying, “It’s interesting because I started writing music with this company and there were two other writers that I was writing with. It was two months after I was asked for a divorce. I just wanted to do something that makes me happy, so I decided to start writing music again. They asked if I wanted to write about my divorce and I was like, ‘No. Why would I want to think about that more?’”
The Bachelor Nation star went on, saying, “They thought I should and that it would be good for me, but I just didn’t. I want to write fun songs. I’m a very fun person. I’m quirky, I like jokes. I wanted to write fun women-empowerment songs. I want to be like Shania Twain. I want people to be like, ‘Oh, that song is so good and such a fun summer vibe.’ Maybe I’d throw one sad song in there. Everybody thinks that all of these songs are about Evan and I’m just a storyteller.”

Carly explained that while she didn’t want to write about her life for all of her music, there is one song about her relationship and split with Evan.
She said, “There’s one song that sort of relatively about Evan and our marriage, but it’s about the kids, really. The relationship I talk about in that song is 50% about us and 50% not about us. It drives me crazy when people think that all these songs are about Evan and that I’m being so mean. I’m telling ya, it’s not about Evan. People will think what they want to think. It’s fine.”
Carly explained, “I just wanted to write fun, feel-good music about other people. We create a character and then start writing about this person.”
