Amanda Stanton Opens Up About Letting Her Kids Curse: ‘I Want to Prepare Them for REAL Life’
Keeping it real!
Bachelor Nation star and mom Amanda Stanton just got candid about parenting in a new post.
Last month, Amanda surprised her daughters Charlie and Kinsley with front-row tickets to the Taylor Swift Eras tour and shared their incredible experience on social media.
At the time, Amanda wrote that the night was “one of the most special nights of my life with them. Core memory. Crying forever.”
Since the concert, Amanda shared a video with her daughter Charlie singing along to Taylor Swift’s song “All Too Well” and they sing the lyric with the F word.
The lyrics go, “And you were tossing me the car keys, ‘F*ck the patriarchy,’ keychain on the ground, we were always skippin’ town.”
In the video, which has raked in hundreds of thousands of views, Amanda and her daughter are seen screaming the lyrics together at the top of their lungs.
While the vast majority of the comments were extremely positive, Amanda said she received some backlash about singing along to a curse word with her 9-year-old.
The mom of two took to her Instagram Stories to respond to the negative feedback.
She wrote, “I know everyone has different opinions on this so I’m not expecting everyone to agree with me! I knew some people would get upset over the video of Charlie saying the F word while singing so I just wanted to share my take haha I do not allow the girls to curse first of all. And if I caught them dropping F bombs during their day to day they’d be in trouble haha!”
Amanda went on, saying, “Because we were at a concert and she was singing/the context, I was like whatever it’s fine! But that instance aside…I curse! So generally I don’t teach them it’s bad to curse. Because why would I teach them it’s a terrible thing to curse only for them to see Michael and I do it all the time? I don’t ever want to instill rules for them that they see me break because then they won’t take me seriously. So I really choose my battles when it comes to rules.”
The Bachelor Nation star shared why she also taught them the importance of context when it comes to using curse words.
Amanda said, “Instead I teach them that it’s not appropriate for KIDS to curse. Also to make sure I’m showing them the correct context of how/when to curse and how it’s not ok to direct it at people (“fuck you” calling someone a bitch etc they NEVER hear us say!) Not appropriate at school or work etc. but if they grow up and want to curse, I don’t really care tbh I care that they are good humans and if they grow up to be good kind humans who say fuck a lot, I will gladly take it.”
She concluded her post by writing, “Idk I guess my reasoning behind this is just because I want to prepare them for REAL life. And let’s be honest, adults curse. If I tell them it’s so so bad then they’re going to grow up and be like ‘mom needs to chill’ and maybe question other things we tell them are bad So for me, being mean to people is bad. Drugs are bad! Saying fuck is not bad (but it’s not for kids) Again, this is just my take and I know not everyone will agree haha!”
We love how candid and honest Amanda was, and if we must say so ourselves, the video is epic. Check it out here!
