Danielle Maltby Shares Why Pride Is Important to Her and Discusses Being a LGBTQ-Friendly Health Care Provider
Celebrating Pride.
Bachelor Nation fans first met Danielle Maltby on Season 21 of “The Bachelor,” and she went on to appear on Seasons 4 and 8 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
On the shows, Danielle discussed her career as a nurse and how her work as a health care professional means so much to her.
Since her time on Bachelor Nation shows, Danielle continues to use her platform to share resources and uplift voices in medicine on her “WoMed Podcast.”
Now, Danielle took to Instagram to share an important message for Pride Month with her hundreds of thousands of followers.
Alongside a photo of herself in a shirt that says “Girls, Gays, and Theys,” the Bachelor Nation star said, “As health care workers it is of utmost importance to stand up for the wellbeing of our patients and take steps to teach ourselves to use more inclusive language. Inclusive care is health care. Period.”
Danielle went on and shared five tips to make health care more inclusive, saying, “1. Don’t assume how someone identifies or their gender. Sex and gender are different and I have learned so much from following people like @pinkmantaray , @enby.delia and @queersurgeon. 2. There are circumstances where you’re going to mess up, keep an open mind, ask questions, apologize. Look for different accounts to follow and learn from. There are also more and more CME courses focusing on gender affirming care and LGBTQ+ affirming care. Keep seeking out educational opportunities. It will just make you a better and safer provider.”
She continued on, writing, “3. Start using gender neutral terms, ie: chest, groin if having to perform physical assessments. 4. In the aesthetics arena: ask for inspo photos, what does their eye draw to first, what do they love about themselves, what is bothering them, what would make them feel more like themselves? Take time and talk through different facial proportions and what aesthetic they’re going for.”
And lastly, Danielle said, “5. Just try. It’s ok if you falter or trip over your words. Keep making the effort to learn and use inclusive language. HAPPY P R I D E!”
We love how Danielle continues to use her platform to be a voice and ally for the LGBTQ+ community.
Happy Pride!
