Sarah Herron Reveals How Her Prosthetic Arm Works in New Video: ‘It’s Actually Pretty Simple’
So cool!
Bachelor Nation first met Sarah Herron on Season 17 of “The Bachelor,” and she returned to our screens for Seasons 1 and 3 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Since her time on the Bachelor Nation shows, Sarah has been extremely open with fans about important topics like fertility, egg freezing, limb differences, and mental health.
She’s shared how she can do everything with one hand, but the Bachelor Nation star just posted an exciting update on her prosthetic arm.
Sarah has been candid about how she is curious if using a prosthetic arm might make parenting a baby a bit easier down the road.
And in April, the Bachelor Nation star revealed that she got a COVVI prosthetic hand.
Now, Sarah is sharing how she uses her COVVI arm in a new video!
Alongside the clip, she wrote, “Lots of questions about how my @covvi hand opens and closes! For such a hi-tech gadget, it’s actually pretty simple.”
In the video, Sarah shows how to open and close the hand, saying, “For such a technical gadget, it’s really pretty simple. Inside there are these two electrodes on each side, and those electrodes control the open and close function. When I flex my arm out, it’s open, and when I flex my arm in, it’s closed. It really only requires a very simple muscle movement.”
She also shows how she can hold fragile objects like a ceramic mug.
Sarah says, “And for holding fragile objects or things that might break, there’s a lock so I don’t drop it. The COVVI hand can cycle through 14 different programmable grips so you can find a grip that best suits whatever activity it is that you are doing.”
And in case you were wondering, the prosthetic arm is on snugly, so it doesn’t fall off easily.
Sarah shared, “People ask if the arm can slip off easily and the answer is no. It is suctioned on really securely. Even though my arm looks red, it doesn’t hurt. Mostly the only ‘pain’ is muscle fatigue because I just don’t have a lot of strength in my arm. The red is something I always have. There’s a TON of blood in my arm, so when I’m hot/cold/doing activities, blood pumps to my arm.”
