EXCLUSIVE: ‘Golden Bachelor’s’ Sandra Mason Discusses Getting Love Letters and Shares Dating Advice
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans got to know and love Sandra Mason on Season 1 of “The Golden Bachelor,” and she’s been keeping fans updated with her life on social media since the show.
Now, Sandra is stopping by for an exclusive chat with BachelorNation.com to look back on the experience and share some advice for fellow singles.
Check out our full chat with Sandra below.
Bachelor Nation: Thank you so much for chatting with us, Sandra! Since coming off the show, have you been dating at all? Any new prospects?
Sandra Mason: Well, I was going to say, it depends what you mean by prospects… The answer is emphatically yes, but I need to do some heavy-duty screening of these men. I have a huge group of gentlemen who are reaching out. Some are too young to even think about and some live far away in foreign countries. I’ve even received a love letter. The letter said that I was wonderful on the show and that he would love a chance to meet me. It was all kinds of superlative adjectives to tell me that he wants me in his life. It has been cute in a way but also kinda creepy.
BN: Wow, a love letter! Since being on the show, have you learned more about what you are looking for when it comes to romantic relationships going forward?
SM: Yeah, a little bit. I know a little more about maturity and independence and the ability to date a guy who’s dating others. That was new and not out of the realm of possibilities. I haven’t had a huge change in how I will date going forward, but the show definitely just opened my eyes to new perspectives and opportunities.
BN: Love that! What about getting recognized: Are people recognizing you in public?
SM: Oh, yes, I have had almost 100 celebrity sightings — that’s what I’m calling them. I go to the grocery store and people all want to take selfies. No one asks for autographs anymore, though! I think it’s kind of fun to take all the pictures, though. I really try to be nice to everyone because they are having fun. It’s all just fun and I’m having fun with it while it’s happening. Who knows if this newfound fame will last?! It would be great if it did, but this is all just fun.
BN: How fun! Did you learn anything about yourself from the experience being on the show?
SM: I learned to be patient from this experience. Living with so many other women is something most of us haven’t done. We have kids and grandkids, but not living with people we just met. It’s a learning curve in the beginning, but I would absolutely recommend friends go on the show. I loved the experience and am so glad I did it.
BN: So happy to hear that! And now that you’ve learned from dating in a new way on “The Golden Bachelor,” what advice do you have for other singles?
SM: No one is going to come knocking on your door to date you. You have to be out and about and willing to chat with people. Join some clubs and just expand your daily life so that the opportunity to meet someone is broadened. Be open to friends introducing you to folks. Go to concerts or venues or places you’ve never been to. Don’t let the unfamiliar discourage you from going out and being open!
BN: Great advice! Thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with us today, Sandra. We’ll catch up with you again soon!
