Celebrate the holidays with Bachelor Nation!
Fans got to know Renee Halverson Wright on Season 1 of “The Golden Bachelor,” and now, the Bachelor Nation star is sitting down with BachelorNation.com for an exclusive chat about her favorite holiday foods and traditions.
Renee shared that she loves celebrating both Hanukkah and Christmas with her family, so she shared a special recipe for each holiday.
For Hanukkah, Renee loves making a Jewish-style brisket and shared her secret recipe with us below.
Renee’s Brisket
Ingredients:
6 pounds (2.75 kg) whole beef brisket
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil
2 pounds yellow onions (1 kg; about 5 medium), sliced 1/4 inch thick
1 pound carrots (450 g; about 6 medium), cut into large dice
1/2 pound celery (225 g; about 4 large ribs), cut into large dice
6 medium cloves garlic
1 cup (240 ml) dry red wine
1 (14 ounce; 400 g) can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand, with the juices
4 sprigs thyme
2 bay leaves
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 500°F. Place the brisket on a work surface. If the fat cap is on the thicker side (1/2 inch), strip off a little of the fat, leaving an even 1/4 -inch layer.
Using a paring knife, make vertical incisions in the meat and massage garlic on both sides of the meat. Season both sides with salt and pepper and place the brisket in a large baking dish (preferably metal) starting with the fat cap facing up and brown it in the oven, about 10 minutes per side.
Remove the meat from the oven, and add onion, celery, carrots, tomatoes, and all above ingredients. Pour in the beef stock and wine. Turn the oven down to 350 degrees, cover the dish with foil and cook in the oven for 3 hours for a 6-pound brisket. Remove the meat from the oven, and transfer it to a cutting board. Slice the brisket against the grain into slices.
Option:
Remove all the vegetables and purée. Pour over brisket or place on the side in a gravy dish.
And Renee also revealed that she enjoys making a delicious Christmas punch and shared her recipe with us below.
