This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Ryan Proposes to Trista on First ‘Bachelorette’ Finale
Celebrating love!
This week is Valentine’s Day, so it’s only fitting that we look back on one of the sweetest proposals in Bachelor Nation history.
Exactly 20 years ago this week, we saw Trista Rehn hand out her final rose to Ryan Sutter, who got down on one knee and proposed to her.
At the beginning, there were 25 men vying for the very first Bachelorette’s love, but in the finale, it came down to her final two men, Ryan and Charlie.
From night one of the very first season of “The Bachelorette,” Trista and Ryan hit it off immediately, and he even received her first one-on-one date of the season.
Trista eventually sent Charlie home and revealed that it was Ryan who won her heart.
During his proposal, Ryan confessed his love for Trista, saying, “I love you with every ounce of who I am, so Trista Rehn, will you marry me?”
And Trista said that she could now tell him without reservation that she loved him too.
Later that year, the two got married on ABC in a three-part special called “Trista & Ryan’s Wedding.”
Now, the two are still together and are the longest-running couple in Bachelor Nation history.
They share two children together, son Maxwell, who was born in July 2007, and daughter Blakesley, who was born in April 2009.
The Sutter family now resides in Vail, Colorado, and we couldn’t be happier that their love is still going so strong all these years later.
