‘The Bachelor’s’ Lexi Shares How Joey’s Response to Endometriosis Differed from Her Ex’s
Getting candid.
Bachelor Nation fans are getting to know Lexi on Season 28 of “The Bachelor,” and on her one-on-one date this week, she opened up to Joey Graziadei about her journey with stage 5 endometriosis.
Now, Lexi stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast and talked to Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt about how Joey’s genuine, kind reaction to her health struggles changed her.
During her date with Joey, Lexi shared that the reason she and her ex broke up was due to her ongoing health issues and potential fertility struggles.
She told Joe and Serena, “For him, my health was something that impacted the end of our relationship. I think he saw it as, I would never say a burden, just something that would potentially affect us being able to have a family long term or my ability to be a mother. I am not always 100% every day. For him, he saw that sometimes as a challenge, which you can imagine on my side is really difficult.”
Lexi went on, saying, “When we broke up, I heard from multiple people that he just wasn’t sure if he could handle your health condition. He wasn’t sure that he could support you in the way that you need to be supported. For me, I do a really good job at holding my pain in and not showing it outwardly. I am already self-conscious about this, so to hear that it was a deciding factor in not moving toward a marriage with me has made me not want to open up about any of this with another person.”
So Lexi said she wanted to touch base early on with Joey about his timeline for wanting kids rather than drag it out until later and possibly realize they weren’t on the same page.
Lexi was overwhelmed by how kind Joey’s response was, and she shared, “Hearing Joey’s response will probably forever change my perception on opening up about this in my life in relationships about my story and my health. He brought me to tears that night. He was so genuine and sincere and such a good listener. I felt heard and I didn’t feel judged or analyzed. I felt like he was really just listening to me and empathetic to what I went through.”
Lexi continued, saying, “He related to me in many ways in his own personal life. He was like, ‘Look, that’s not an issue for me.’ I think with the right person, whoever that is for him, they would figure it out. That could be through things like adoption or surrogacy or whatever that looks like. Kids are important to him as well, but my health wasn’t going to be detrimental in his choice to move forward with me. He was just so kind that night. It was really beautiful.”
