Katelyn Gets Candid About Her Family’s ‘Single Curse’ and How She Ended Up on ‘The Bachelor’
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans got to know Katelyn on Season 28 of “The Bachelor” as she looked for love with Joey Graziadei.
Katelyn was sent home this week during the Rose Ceremony in Montréal, Canada.
Now, she’s stopping by for a candid conversation with Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt on the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast.
Serena and Joey asked Katelyn what her dating life was like living in Sante Fe, New Mexico, before going on “The Bachelor.”
The radiochemist said, “Dating life was not great before the show. Dating in Sante Fe was pretty hard for me. The population of people is so small and the single people are even smaller. It was so difficult to find anyone that I could date and then out of those people it wasn’t like anything ever truly clicked. I never felt butterflies or anything.”
Katelyn went on, saying, “I never could get past the fourth date. It didn’t happen for me. I felt like I dated everyone in the city. You also have to subtract the people that your friends have dated too, so the circle gets smaller and smaller. There came a point where I just quit dating. That was a couple months before I applied to be on the show. I was like this is it for me, I guess. It gets exhausting for sure.”
Joe asked Katelyn if her dating struggles made her buy into her family’s curse that she discussed on the show.
In case you missed it, Katelyn opened up to Joey about how all the women in her family are single and her mom and aunts think they are cursed.
Katelyn said, “I feel like our curse is more of a nice thing to blame our problems on. It’s not like we necessarily believe it. I also feel like my mom and my aunts are so independent. It’s that or they’ve been in love and then haven’t found that again. It’s more like not giving into something that you know isn’t the one for you. I don’t want to settle. It took me a while to realize that. In earlier years, I definitely fell into relationships way too quickly.”
She also revealed how her family reacted to her sharing their curse on national television, saying, “My mom and aunts thought it was funny when I talked about the curse on the show. They could not believe they aired that conversation. I was convinced they would put voodoo kind of editing on it, so they were prepared for the worst. We talk about the curse all the time and they are such lighthearted and fun people that they didn’t care at all.”
Serena asked Katelyn how she eventually ended up on “The Bachelor” and Katelyn said it started with a friend nominating her.
She shared, “My best friend Catherine nominated me for ‘The Bachelor’ and then a lot more of my friends nominated me and I was like, well, I guess I should apply myself. My friend saw that I had just gone on another date and it wasn’t working and she said, ‘You need to go where they have pre-vetted someone and you know they are going to be a good person.’”
