Joey Graziadei Discusses the Syndrome Causing His Eyes to Appear Yellow: ‘I Want to Get My Health Right’
Getting personal.
Bachelor Nation fans are watching Joey Graziadei look for love each week on “The Bachelor,” and as they’ve been watching, some perceptive fans noticed something unique about Joey’s eyes.
People have been quick to point out the yellow coloring of the whites of Joey’s eyes and wondered what could be causing it.
Now, Joey took to Instagram to answer the question and clear up any speculation about his health.
The Bachelor shared a video and recounted a health struggle from his teen years that led to his condition.
Joey said, “I wanted to jump on here really quick and talk about something that I am seeing a lot of comments about, which is Joey’s yellow eyes. So to give some context on that, I have to go all the way back to when I was in high school. I was sick for about a week and a half and my mom thought it would be a good idea for me to go to the doctor. When I went to the doctor, I had bloodwork done and the bloodwork showed that my bilirubin count was very high.”
He went on, explaining, “That means that there could be something that was wrong with my liver. We went and I got a liver ultrasound, I went to other doctors and they found out that there was nothing necessarily wrong, like hepatitis, but they diagnosed me with something called Gilbert syndrome. At the end of the day, I am told that I am healthy, it’s something that does affect the whites of my eyes. It makes it have those jaundice levels which is why they look a little bit more yellow.”
Joey shared that while he is very healthy, he does want to prioritize his health more in 2024 and appreciates everyone looking out for him.
He said, “It’s something I want to pay more attention to this year. I want to get my health right and make sure that I’m all good. I at least wanted to give some background and let you know that to my knowledge, I am healthy.”
Joey continued, saying, “It’s something I have to pay attention to and drink more fluids. It gets worse when I am stressed or have a lack of sleep, which happens on a TV show. I do appreciate everyone looking out for me and wondering if I’m ok. To my knowledge, I am as ok as I can be and I will continue to look at it, so thank you.”
We are glad Joey is healthy and appreciate him clearing up any speculation. Sending him all the best always and we can’t wait to watch how the rest of his season unfolds!
