Lace Morris Opens Up About Being a Single Mom with a Newborn: ‘You Feel So Alone’
Getting candid.
Bachelor Nation fans first met Lace Morris on Season 20 of “The Bachelor,” and she returned to our screens for Seasons 3 and 8 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Then over the summer, Lace announced that she and marketing mogul Ryan Nelson were expecting their first child together.
Lace and Ryan ended up going their separate ways before their son Liam was born last month.
Now, Lace is opening up about being a single mom to a newborn on Dave Neal’s YouTube channel.
Dave asked Lace what it was like going through a breakup during pregnancy and she said, “There was no support. That was a rough eight months. I feel like the baby chilled me out for some reason. Like pregnancy made me very calm so I handled it the best I could. It was tough. It’s like when you know someone is there but you feel so alone.”
And while things didn’t work out with Ryan, Lace shared that she really tried to make things work.
“I stayed and hoped that things would change. I stayed hoping that this was going to work and it just never did and I was forced to have to do this on my own,” the Bachelor Nation star said.
Lace said that her family and friends have been super supportive during this time, despite trying to do a lot of it on her own.
She said, “I have all my mom’s side of the family and my mom came out for a month. I have so many friends and family who are wanting to help me. I say no a lot because I am such a control freak and I think I’ve got it, but now I’m drowning. It’s probably why men struggle with me too, because I am so independent. Not saying that’s what this situation was, but I am so independent and think I can do everything.”
And though it’s been difficult so far, Lace said, “Maybe being a single mom was what my calling was.”
Dave asked Lace how her postpartum healing experience has been and Lace shared that the mental toll has been harder than the physical toll.
She said, “I don’t feel like I’ve lost myself as some people say. Physically, I’ve recovered pretty great. I’m almost at six weeks. The thing that feels like a struggle is that I’m one human doing this all alone. I have had people reach out saying that with a partner it’s even hard, so to be able to do this full time alone has been really eye opening. … I feel like I’m going insane sometimes.”
We’re continuing to wish Lace all the best with her new bundle of joy, and we know her sharing her experience will help others feel less alone.
