Grant Ellis Reveals How He’s Preparing to Be the Bachelor and What He Learned Not to Do from Past Leads
Keeping it real.
Bachelor Nation fans just learned that Grant Ellis is officially the next Bachelor for Season 29!
Amid all the excitement over his announcement, the new Bachelor stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast and opened up to Serena Pitt and Joe Amabile about how he’s preparing so far.
Joe asked Grant how he felt when he got that call asking him to be the lead.
Grant got candid, saying, “If I could describe it, all I can say is I’m just grateful. I am super grateful. All of this is coming at once and I’m just living in the moment. When I was called, I just expressed gratitude and said, ‘Of course I would take the role, and if you guys are going to help me find my wife, I am just excited about that.’”
He shared that he knew he was ready for the role, saying, “I had absolutely zero hesitations. I was just super excited. When people can help hand pick your potential partner for you and you get to meet the women and see who is for you and who is not, who wouldn’t love to do that? I’m blessed and in a great situation.”
The co-hosts asked Grant what he’s looking for in a future partner and how he plans on finding them in this process.
The Bachelor said, “I want somebody who is genuine. I want someone who has a heart for other people and who isn’t self-absorbed. I want someone who is affectionate and kind. Obviously a beautiful woman, but I am super open in this process. I know that through life experience, sometimes the best things come in the most unexpected ways.”
Grant added, “I am just looking at what’s inside a person and I’m really going to be getting to know these women. I’m going to be asking them questions and I’m going to discover myself and they are going to discover themselves through this process. I want to figure out what they want and what they are looking for and ultimately hopefully figure out who is my best match.”
And Joe and Serena were curious how Grant is preparing for this experience of being the Bachelor.
Grant shared what he’s doing to feel ready, explaining, “Being an athlete, I’ve had to watch film, and being in the market, I’ve had to take notes after every session, so with me, I’m watching previous Bachelors. I watched Ben’s season, Joey’s season, Nick’s season, and Clayton’s season. I am watching these seasons to figure out what the good and not good takeaways are. Ultimately, I’m just going to try to be myself and try to learn from past seasons and put my own spin on it.”
The “Happy Hour” co-hosts asked Grant what he learned by watching those seasons of “The Bachelor” and he got candid with his answer.
Grant said, “The number one takeaway of what to do is to be sure of yourself and when you commit, you need to commit. That’s something that I am ready to do. There is not going to be any ‘I love yous’ and then taking that back. When I see somebody and I’m ready, it’s going to be a decision that I am willing and ready to make. And for what not to do, I don’t want to be insensitive. I want to be emotionally aware that these women are going through the experience also.”
