EXCLUSIVE: Spencer Reveals Whether We Could See Him in ‘Paradise’ and How Being on ‘The Bachelorette’ Affected Him
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation got to know and love Spencer on Season 21 of “The Bachelorette” while he strived to win Jenn Tran’s heart.
He was eliminated in Week 6 but has gained a lot of support from fans and fellow Bachelor Nation cast members since then.
After the “Men Tell All,” Spencer stopped by for an exclusive chat with BachelorNation.com to discuss his experience on the show and what he’s learned since it’s aired.
Check out our full interview below.
Bachelor Nation: Hello! How has it been watching this season back for you? Is there anything you didn’t realize was happening that you’ve now learned for the first time watching it back?
Spencer Conley: Yeah, watching it back has been super interesting. Obviously there’s everything that I went through, and watching it back has been unique to see it all play out again. But then there’s things I wasn’t present for at all, and watching that back has been pretty shocking and eye opening, I would say.
BN: Was there something major you didn’t quite realize or weren’t a part of? Or was it all kind of what you expected?
SC: A lot of what I expected happened, but the degree to which it happened was shocking.
BN: That makes sense! What has it been like interacting with fans on social media while watching it back?
SC: It’s been awesome! I don’t check my DMs at all, but any comments people have left, especially after my elimination, have been just so positive and so awesome and I’m so grateful for the opportunity and that people resonate with some of what I had to say. It’s been really cool!
BN: That’s so nice! Do you look back at the experience after watching it back and wish you could’ve done anything differently?
SC: No, I was myself the whole time, I think. There was this whole premise throughout the season that it was a competition, which I disagree with. I don’t think it was a competition. I think that you can compete to win a sports game, you can compete to a degree to get a raise or a new position at a company, but you can’t compete for someone’s heart. That’s a two-way decision. You can compete to get enough time to show that person exactly who you are, but I think with every moment that I had I was 100% authentic to myself, and that just wasn’t the person for Jenn, which is fine.
BN: Love that! Have you received any feedback, advice, or conversations from any other alumni from the show?
SC: My best friend before the show was actually on the show years ago, Connor Saeli, so yes. When I figured out that I was going [on the show], Connor had a lot of good advice and he has since post-show.
BN: That’s so sweet! Would you ever do “Paradise”? I know some fans want to see you on the beach!
SC: Yeah! I’m focused right now on finding my person and where that is, I don’t know. If I met someone beforehand then absolutely not, that’s my main focus. But if I didn’t meet someone beforehand, the beach isn’t a bad place to meet someone!
BN: How exciting! Do you have a favorite part of the whole experience now looking back?
SC: My favorite part is how the experience has shaped the way I approach relationships, whether it be romantic or just friendships. When you’re put in this scenario where you have this expedited timeline and you have the end goal of an engagement, and I know what weight that end goal carries, you have to really put a lot of thought into every interaction that you have with someone. And that cascaded over into relationships with other guys, with producers, and it just changed the way I approach relationships from here on out. It’s a huge positive, so I’m grateful for it.
BN: That’s so cool! So you think you’ll date differently now going forward?
SC: Yes. I was extremely convicted in the person going into this and knowing what I wanted going into this, and I have even more conviction in that leaving it now. Now I’m ready to start my life and find my person.
BN: That’s awesome! Well, we hope you find that person! And maybe we’ll see it happen on the beaches of “Paradise” next summer!
