EXCLUSIVE: Jenn Tran Reveals If She Got Closure from Devin and Which Former Bachelorette Has Been Her ‘Rock’
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans saw Jenn Tran look for love on Season 21 of “The Bachelorette,” and this week, we learned that the season didn’t end the way Jenn was hoping.
While she and Devin got engaged at the end of filming, he called off their engagement shortly after and left Jenn heartbroken.
Now, Jenn sat down with BachelorNation.com for an exclusive interview about how she’s been healing, what she’s looking forward to, and who from Bachelor Nation has been her biggest supporter.
Check out our full conversation with Jenn below.
Bachelor Nation: First of all, we’re sending you so much love, Jenn, and we wanted to thank you for taking the time to chat with us. We wanted to ask how you were feeling going into “After the Final Rose” and whether you feel like you got the closure you needed when seeing Devin.
Jenn Tran: Thank you so much — love you guys. I would say going into the night, I was definitely freaked out and very anxious. I knew it was going to be very emotional seeing him for the first time since our breakup. I was pretty unhappy that he didn’t want to have a conversation off-camera beforehand, so that was very upsetting to me and made me even more nervous. And now after the fact, I was happy that I was able to say my piece and I was very happy to finally be able to finally go through the breakup with the rest of the world instead of having to hide it and pretend to be happy. So I think that closure and just being able to move on with myself and finally get everybody else on the same page was helpful. It didn’t really have anything to do with him, because he honestly didn’t give me very much.
BN: Absolutely. We are glad you got to say your piece and can start to move forward now too. It was so clear to everyone watching last night how strong you are; do you feel like you learned more about your strength from this experience?
JT: Yeah, definitely. I’ve always said that when you’re vulnerable like that, it shows so much strength to be able to feel every emotion you’re feeling. So for me to even sit there in front of a room filled with people and in front of him to be able to fully express the emotions that I was feeling in that moment, whether it was anger or sadness, to be able to really feel all those emotions, I see strength in that 100%. I wasn’t really ever able to do that previously, because in the past I didn’t like to show my emotions. So to be able to do that, I think there is a lot of strength in that and I am really proud of myself.
BN: As you should be! Do you look back on the experience now and wish you would’ve done anything differently?
JT: No, I don’t have any regrets. I really did everything to the best of my ability with all the knowledge that I had at the time and it is so unfortunate how it all unfolded at the end, but I mean, I couldn’t have seen it coming. I don’t think anybody did. So at the end of the day, I made a decision with all the information I had at the time and I stand by that for now.
BN: Yeah, we also didn’t see that unfolding the way it did. Something we did love, though, was getting to see you speak Vietnamese with your family on-screen last night. What did it mean to you to get to share that part of your family’s culture with Bachelor Nation?
JT: Oh, yes! That meant so, so much to me. That was one of the first times I’ve seen Vietnamese being spoken on American television. I speak a lot of Viet-English with my mom because I don’t know certain words, so we go back and forth. That’s the dynamic in my household, speaking half English and half Vietnamese, and I think a lot of mixed cultural people and families can relate to that. It was so special to have that moment, and I hope there are more moments like that on this show and others as a way to help people feel less alone in their cultures and who they are.
BN: Absolutely! It was so beautiful to witness. Amid all the heartbreak over the past month, what has been bringing you joy or is there something you’re looking forward to?
JT: Of course, the overwhelming support from women around the world coming together and surrounding me in support has been a light. Unfortunately, this is a situation a lot of others have been through or something similar, so the support has been amazing. Also, “Dancing with the Stars” has been an amazing surprise! To be able to throw myself into something I’ve always wanted to do is so exciting and I have the best partner ever in Sasha! He’s so fun and amazing and I know he’s gonna hold my hand through all the cries I will have. I feel lucky to have a great support system around me.
BN: Yes, we can’t wait to watch you on “DWTS.” You are going to be incredible! Is there anything else you’re doing to take care of yourself and your heart as you heal?
JT: Having to relive it with everyone else hasn’t been easy, so I’m just taking as much time as I need to be on my own and lean on my friends now that I can talk about everything fully. I do have a lot more closure now after everything is out there and I am just focused on moving forward.
BN: Totally. Has there been anyone from Bachelor Nation who has been there for you during this time?
JT: Oh, my gosh, yes. Rachel Recchia has been my rock during this time. Nobody else understands this situation quite like Rachel. She’s been through something similar and every emotion I’m feeling, she has felt. She has made me feel so validated and not alone.
BN: We are so glad to hear that, and we are wishing you so much luck on “DWTS” and will continue rooting for you wherever life takes you. Sending you so much love, Jenn!
JT: Thank you so much, you guys are the best!
