Lexi Young Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles: ‘I Have Not Been Feeling Myself’
Getting vulnerable.
Bachelor Nation fans got to know Lexi Young on Season 28 of “The Bachelor,” where she opened up to Joey Graziadei about her journey with endometriosis.
Since her time on the show, Lexi has kept fans up-to-date on her health and how having stage 5 endo impacts her even after having surgery.
Recently, she opened up online about some mental health struggles she’s been facing and why she went MIA for a little bit.
“When my mental health is not at its best place, I’m the type of person that closes off and shuts down,” Lexi revealed, “and so in the last month, I’ve been going through a lot of different things.”
She went on to explain that she’s been dealing with a lot related to her health struggles and personal relationships and felt it was important for her to talk through everything “so we can all go on this journey and grow together.”
Lexi openly shared that recently she has not felt motivated or excited to go do things, which is abnormal for her. “I have not been feeling myself,” she admitted.
The Bachelor Nation star revealed that a lot of her struggles are stemming from her health condition, and gave an update about her endometriosis journey.
“I’ve had a couple ultrasounds recently as my pain has been getting a lot worse,” she shared candidly. “It is a lot to navigate on my own.”
Lexi also shared that her endometriosis has gotten worse. “My left ovary is completely attached to my uterus and it’s causing me a lot of chronic pain… I have to make some tough decisions if and when I’m gonna have my next surgery and what we’re going to do… and those decisions will impact my future abilities to have children.”
She shared how she’s currently having conversations with a lot of incredible doctors to find a solution on how to get rid of her pain while being able to still have a family in the future.
“It’s kind of hard… because I have to make tough calls and I don’t have anyone to bounce that off of,” Lexi admitted.
She also opened up about taking different medications to try to find a solution and help with her pain, but that it also has caused her to not feel like herself.
“Sometimes I just don’t wanna take pictures and I don’t wanna film videos, but I want to be authentic… because I know I’m not alone,” Lexi stated.
She ended her video by saying, “I want to use this platform to raise awareness for women who are in their 30s and single and navigating infertility because it’s really hard and I’m here for all of you guys and I want to create a community that we can make these decisions together so no one feels alone.”
Lexi received an outpouring of love and support on her post for being so vulnerable, and shared another video expressing how much it meant to her.
“When I pressed ‘post’ on Friday, I was so nervous because I have not opened up to close friends, my own parents, my brother about where my mental health has been recently and I’ve just been kind of struggling in silence,” she revealed, “but… every single one of your comments and messages was the reason I was able to get through this weekend emotionally and it made me feel so much less alone.”
Lexi stated, “I will tell you that having a support system is 100 times better than being [alone].”
We’re glad to hear Lexi has a support system to help her navigate through this time, and know that her sharing her story will help so many others going through similar struggles.
You are so strong, Lexi, and Bachelor Nation is sending you our endless love and support!
