Theresa Nist Reveals She Starred in a ’90s Commercial for Breast Cancer Awareness — See the Video!
Looking back for a good cause.
Bachelor Nation fans got to know Theresa Nist as she found love with Gerry Turner on Season 1 of “The Golden Bachelor.”
While she and Gerry ended up going their separate ways, the two are still supportive of each other and wish the best for one another.
Since her time on the show, Theresa has been keeping fans updated with her life on social media and sharing adventures with her family.
Now, in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Bachelor Nation star took to Instagram to share the story of how she starred in a breast cancer awareness commercial in the 1990s.
Alongside a video of the commercial, Theresa wrote, “I couldn’t help but try to find this video which I was asked to do about 30 years ago. It brings back so many memories for me, especially 90s hairdos and me being a young mom dabbling in local commercials as a hobby.”
She continued, sharing, “I got a call one day asking if I could jump over ‘very, very low hurdles’ I asked how high and for what purpose? 3 1/2 feet. Breast Cancer Awareness. Okay, wonderful, but that was a regulation sized hurdle and I’d never jumped over a hurdle before.”
Theresa then explained how they had another actor to do the commercial originally, but she couldn’t jump over the hurdles and the casting director would’ve lost the account if she didn’t find someone.
Theresa revealed how she made a fake hurdle out of garbage cans and a tree limb in her front yard to see if she could jump over it before giving a confirmed answer.
She said, “I tried and tried and tried until I finally succeeded. But did I look like I could really do it? I asked [my daughter] Jenny ‘Do I look like I can do this?’ And in her sweet little voice she exclaimed ‘Yes, mommy! You look good!’ So, I called them back and told them I could do it.”
After successfully filming, the new hurdler extraordinaire revealed that people were in disbelief that it was really her in the commercial.
“It aired so many times, which was so wonderful for breast cancer awareness, but, when my son Tommy and I watched it later…we couldn’t believe that it was really me on the screen hurdling,” Theresa admitted. “But, yes, it really was me doing it and I’m so happy that I was able to do it for such a good cause.”
What a fun throwback and such an important cause to highlight.
We’re glad Theresa shared this story for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are sending our love to anyone who’s ever been affected.
