Demi Burnett Claps Back at Critics Over Sharing Her Autism Journey
Getting candid.
If you’ve been keeping up with Bachelor Nation star Demi Burnett, you know that around two years ago, she got candid about her autism diagnosis on social media.
Since being diagnosed by her doctor, Demi has continued to discuss autism openly online and share educational videos about autism, pathological demand avoidance, sobriety, and ADHD.
Now, the Bachelor Nation star has taken to Instagram to respond to those who have criticized her for oversharing her autism journey online.
In a new video, Demi highlighted and called out one of the criticisms she’s received.
Using air quotes, she said, “‘You’ve made autism your whole personality.’ My good sir. In real life, like not on the internet, I hardly talk about my autism ever. Why? Because people’s reactions can be risky.”
Demi continued, sharing, “And that leads into why I have to be so loud about it on social media. When I post about it, when I talk about it, people who relate can take that content, understand themselves better. Not only that, show it to their friends and families to help them understand them better to express themselves to say, ‘Hey, this is how I’ve been feeling. I can’t put it into words, but this is it.’ You should never want me to stop making autistic content because of the amount that it helps people.”
Demi then further explained in her caption why she posts about her autism journey, writing, “When I was diagnosed, I was desperate for autistic content that I could relate to. I'm trying to provide what I needed 💞.”
Followers filled the comments, sharing their love for Demi and how much her content has positively affected them.
One person wrote, “Yes! This! Never stop being you & sharing what YOU want to share💞you’ve helped me so much 🥹.”
Another person shared, “One of your videos helped my therapist understand pathological demand avoidance! she came across you on her own and brought it up to me in a session. you’re doing important work on social media 🙌.”
And one follower added, “As an AuDHD therapist that works with autistic clients: THANK YOU THANK YOU for shouting out for our community 🫶🏻🫶🏻we get so little representation of the vast ways autism can look and instead are often pigeon holed into one way we’re supposed to be, and it’s so good to have aaaaall the neurodiversity present.”
We are so proud of Demi, and we know that her openness about her experiences will continue to help so many others. We are sending our love to her always!
