EXCLUSIVE: Nicolle Responds to Debbie Calling Her Out at ‘Women Tell All’; Plus: Why Debbie Did It
Getting candid.
Bachelor Nation has been getting to know the remarkable women hoping to capture Mel’s heart and find their happily ever after on Season 2 of “The Golden Bachelor.”
Recently, they reunited to spill the tea and reflect on their Golden journeys during “The Women Tell All.” Tensions flared when Debbie called out Nicolle for dismissing the other women and going on the show to become an influencer.
Now, both Nicolle and Debbie have stopped by for an exclusive interview with BachelorNation.com to share their true feelings about the exchange and why it occurred.
Check out our full interview with Nicolle and Debbie below.
Bachelor Nation: Hi Nicolle, it’s good to see you. Tonight seemed a little tough; what did you make of Debbie’s comments toward you?
Nicolle: I didn’t like it and I told her that. I mean, Debbie and I are close, so I just thought she went for me and it was not necessary. There are so many positive things about our friendship, and I thought she could’ve put one positive thing. Like, when you criticize someone that’s fine, but it’s usually like a sandwich. You say something nice, then you go for it, and then you end it with something nice.
Also, in all fairness to her, there were four in a row that I was like, it’s fine, it’s fine. But the fifth, it was enough. It needed to stop, so it just was too much. It was over the edge… It was a little tough and I didn’t think it was as necessary as it needed to be. Some of it I expected, of course. I think everything up to Debbie I could handle. That was sort of the thing that broke the camel’s back for me, but it’s okay.
BN: Thank you for sharing that. And Debbie, did you expect to address those situations with Nicolle tonight?
Debbie: I wasn’t planning on it. I knew if there was a moment where I felt I needed to express myself, I was going to. I hope I didn’t come across too harsh. I wasn’t really going to say anything until she started talking, once again, about women empowerment and women supporting women and all of that. It just really hit me the wrong way because she was dismissing so many of us women when I was watching the episodes. And she dismissed my connection with Mel. The fact that she was very verbal about being in it for her own personal reasons to be an influencer and her comments about the women in the first season, I don’t think that’s women empowerment.
So I just felt, I know Terri had already said it, but I just thought it would hit harder coming from me because we did share a bedroom and a bathroom and it was frustrating because I really did get so close to Nicolle. And I love her and I adore her and I was watching it thinking, ‘What are you doing? You’re such a sweet woman.’ And like I said, she did my makeup for my date and she took such special care and I adored her. I literally have been defending her every day to my family, to my friends, to people I don’t even know who really were just letting her have it. I said, ‘No, she is lovely and funny and smart.’ And so when I saw that stuff, I thought, gosh, she is really not thinking this through, and I don’t understand it. So it hurt. It hurt my feelings and I was upset also for her because I know what she wants and if that’s what she wants, she’s not going about it the right way.
So I think she heard me. I know she was upset and she got teary-eyed with me. She was upset with me that I came in so hard. But you know, I felt like I needed to say it and I said it.
BN: Thank you, ladies. We appreciate both of you being so vulnerable and sharing your thoughts with us.
