See Katie Thurston’s People Health Magazine Cover Story: ‘Just So Happy to Be Here’

Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston found love with comedian Jeff Arcuri and the two tied the knot last year.
Katie was also diagnosed with breast cancer early last year and has been keeping followers updated with her treatment journey online.
The Bachelor Nation star later revealed that her breast cancer had spread to her liver, making it stage 4, and soon after started a new treatment plan that seems to be working.
Now, Katie has shared on Instagram that she recently made the cover of People Health Magazine!
In her post, Katie shared the front page as well as shots from her photo shoot with Jeff and their dog Charlie.
She said, “On the cover of this quarters spring edition with @people Health!” and the cover quotes the former Bachelorette, saying, “I’m just so happy to be here.”
The front page also shares a snippet of her article that reads, “Diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer last year, the 35-year-old former Bachelorette is newly married, responding well to treatment and savoring every moment of her ‘second chance at life.’”
Katie opened up in the article about her journey with breast cancer and how she’s been advocating for others to get checked.
“Breast cancer flips your world upside down,” she said. “I did not realize how common breast cancer is in young women. Had I known, I would definitely have gotten that lump checked out sooner. That’s kind of my purpose right now — educating people that cancer’s not something reserved for 40 and above.”
Katie then shared how multiple people have told her that they’ve gotten checked based on her advocacy.
“Women tell me, ‘Because of you, I went and got checked,’” she shared. “I’m financially secure, I’m mentally strong with all this. It sucks, and this is a weird thing to say… but if anyone has to have breast cancer, I’m glad it’s me.”
