Hannah Brown Opens Up About Missing the 'Simplicity of Home' on 'Dancing with the Stars'
You can take the girl out of Alabama, but you can’t take the Alabama out of the girl.
Hannah Brown tearfully described being homesick in her “Dancing with the Stars” pre-package video before she and Alan Bersten danced the samba to Carrie Underwood’s “Southbound.” The Season 15 Bachelorette told her partner at one point, “I just miss being on my couch with my mom and my dad watching a movie after dinner and playing with my dogs. I miss the simplicity of home.” (Her parents Susanne and Robert Brown cheered her on last week and this week.)
In an interview after the show, Hannah discussed how she’s struggling to “navigate” life in Los Angeles and what she misses most. Hannah told told “Entertainment Tonight,” “I could put myself in … our really great gray L-shaped sectional in the corner seat with my dog in my lap. I can’t wait to do that one day soon… There’s nothing like being home. Trying to navigate this new life on my own in L.A. has been really challenging.”
The 25-year-old said she feels extremely grateful for all the opportunities she’s been given, such as being on “The Bachelor,” leading the charge on “The Bachelorette,” and now appearing on “Dancing with the Stars.” She said of doing the back-to-back-to-back shows, “This has been so crazy how this has all happened for me.”
Hannah insisted that she “never did this for the fame” and that she’s “still just a normal person along for the ride.”
She added, “I feel like I’m a complicated person with a lot of emotions.”
Her partner Alan then chimed in, “She’s a normal person with a lot of rhinestones.”
Hannah has talked a lot about her struggles after “The Bachelorette” and the transition of moving to Los Angeles. In August, she wrote a long Instagram post on the topic and explained she felt like she was in “uncharted territory.”
Just two weeks after the season finale, she wrote, “Honest policy: I’m struggling. Life is so different. Since last August, I’ve been a pageant queen, a bachelor contestant, and the Bachelorette. I’ve been in love with multiple people, I got engaged, I broke off an engagement, and I shared it all with millions of people.”
Hannah talked about how it’s been difficult staying in touch with family and friends because she doesn’t “have the time or emotional capacity to fill each of them in on my life right now.”
The entire Instagram post reminded Hannah that “it’s okay to be overwhelmed” and that she’s human, just like the rest of us.
