One Look Was All It Took for Peter Weber’s Parents to Fall in Love
It was love at first sight (of sorts) for Peter Weber’s parents, Barbara and Peter, when they first crossed paths on an airplane 33 years ago.
(Peter the Bachelor, who was in the room during the podcast recording, explained that he’s not technically Peter Jr. because he and his father have different middle names. Rather, his family calls him “Bud.”)
The Weber matriarch and patriarch told Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin all about their love story on a new episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour” — the first one of 2020 and Becca’s debut as the new official co-host. It’s quite the meet-cute, straight out of a romantic comedy.
Barb began, “I was a flight attendant for United Airlines, and my husband is still a pilot. We were on a flight and I was supposed to be deadheading, which means I was sitting as a passenger going from Chicago to Miami to work the flight back.”
All of a sudden, she saw a “fella go right by me,” but one physical attribute truly stole her heart: his butt. She shared, “I saw him from the back, and he was really nice and tan because he had been on a Hawaii trip. Do you know I knew I was going to marry him? Just the butt look — I did not even see his face!”
Barb felt so confident about this that she told one of her friends on the flight, “That’s the man I’m going to marry.”

Fate worked in their favor, because once they landed in Miami, Peter talked to Barb to tell her there was a possibility their flight might be canceled due to a mechanical issue. They ended up being able to fly back to Chicago, but Barb knew she wanted to give this pilot her phone number. She wrote it down on three separate pieces of paper and stuffed them in her apron, but she didn’t give it to him.
Barb continued, “We get to Chicago and he comes out of the cockpit and he says to me, ‘You told me you were Cuban. Can you say something in Spanish to me?’ because he grew up in Venezuela. So I looked at him and said, ‘Hola.’”
Peter sweetly chimed in during Barb’s story and said, “Well, you had me at hello.”
Barb went on, “He says, ‘I’d like to get your number, because I’d like to take you out. Do you have a piece of paper and a pen?’ I said I didn’t — but keep in mind I have three of them in my pocket. He got a piece of paper and I wrote it down, and the rest is history.”
One can only hope Peter and Barb’s love story paves the way for a similar ending for Bud as he meets 30 women ready to win his heart. Tune into Season 24 of “The Bachelor” on Monday, January 6, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
