Tyler and Peter's Dads Were the Real Stars During 'The Bachelorette' Hometown Dates
Remember when Kevin Durant told his mother Wanda “You’re the real MVP” during his 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player Award speech? That sums up how Bachelor Nation felt about Peter and Tyler’s parents on a recent “Bachelorette” episode.
Hannah Brown met Peter, Tyler, Luke, and Jed’s families during the highly anticipated hometown dates in California, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee, respectively. While Luke and Jed’s visits each had their big moments, Peter and Tyler’s hometowns rose above the rest, largely because of their fathers.
Let’s start with Peter. Before meeting up with his parents, the pilot showed Hannah a new vantage point of Los Angeles during a short flight on his plane. Peter’s suave romantic moves weren’t hindered at all 10,000 feet up in the air (or however high they went).
Once at home and after introductions and a toast, Peter’s dad Peter Sr. caused collective eyes to well up with his emotional one-on-one time with his son. Peter’s mom Barbara and brother Jack quickly became fan favorites, too.
The Peters had a very candid discussion about relationships and the reality of the situation.
“I’m aware that there could be heartbreak and I don’t want that,” the 27-year-old Peter said.
His father responded, “We don’t want that for you either. I know how much you suffered in that relationship, but you’re opening your heart again. I can see that you genuinely care for Hannah and I can see that she cares for you. You guys look wonderful together. I hope you get what you’re desiring. It’s nice to see.”
Peter Sr. then started crying and he said through the tears, “I only want the best for you. That’s it. I just want the best for you.”
Peter Sr., you’re preaching to the choir!
After an eventful day in Westlake Village, California, Hannah then ventured to Jupiter, Florida, for her hometown with Tyler. He took her out on a boat and they splashed around before heading to Tyler’s house. This date felt so significant to Tyler because he would finally get to see his father Jeff again.
“I haven’t seen him since I left. I don’t know what kind of shape he’s in, how he’s doing,” Tyler revealed. Jeff, who was in the hospital before Tyler left for the show, suffered from”a paralyzed vocal cord from his tube when he was in a coma.“
Tyler finally got to see his dad after “weeks and weeks and weeks” and it was as sentimental as was expected. During some father-son time, Jeff told Tyler he “got him worried” because Tyler looks so in love.
“If that’s the case, then I’m so happy for you,” he told Tyler.
Tyler replied, “You getting sick, that was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through in my life. Signing away your rights when you go into surgery killed me. I want you to see my wife, I want you to see my kids. That’s why I’m taking this seriously. I want you to be around for all that. It means the world to have her here with you.”
Jeff told both Tyler and Hannah that they would have “all our love and support” if they ended up together. Tearfully, Tyler said it felt “really amazing” to see his dad again.
Someone please pass the tissues.
