Demi Burnett Reveals How She and Kristian Haggerty First Met
It’s all about who you know, right? That’s exactly where Demi Burnett’s relationship story begins.
Demi opened up on a new episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour with Rachel & Ali” about how she met her girlfriend, Kristian Haggerty. Her talk with Ali and Rachel was her first sit-down interview since coming out on “Bachelor in Paradise.”
The 24-year-old made history on Tuesday’s episode of “Bachelor in Paradise” when Kristian arrived and the two decided to pursue their relationship on the show. Although Demi is not the first bisexual woman to be on the show (she considers herself “fluid”), she paved the way for same-sex relationships in the Bachelor franchise. Demi gave a shout-out to Jaimi King, who appeared on Nick Viall’s season of “The Bachelor” and was openly bisexual.
“She walked so I could run,” Demi said of Jaimi.
On the podcast with Rachel Lindsay and Ali Fedotowsky-Manno, Demi shared the story of how she and Kristian first crossed paths. She doesn’t remember “the exact day” they met, but it was definitely in Los Angeles when she was in town for something “Bachelor”-related.
“I was at Catherine Agro’s house and I met her roommate, Kristian. The first time we meet it was all friendly,” she explained.
Demi added, “I had no idea her sexuality — I didn’t ask.”

She immediately thought Kristian was “so cool.” While things were platonic at first, it all changed one night when Demi returned to L.A. Demi said, “It was a late night and we were all talking about getting in the hot tub, and everyone fell asleep except for Kristian and me. So we were just hanging out in the hot tub, and then we just made out a little bit and stuff like that.”
Demi said of Kristian, “She’s unlike anyone you’ll ever meet. She makes everyone around her feel good, special, and understood. She always puts everyone else before herself. It’s very admirable and a good quality to have. She’s a really special person.”
