The 7 Most Important Moments from 'Men Tell All'
Was this “Men Tell All” or “The Luke P. Show?” Well, it felt one and the same this season, except the latter has “been canceled,” according to Hannah Brown.
Chris Harrison moderated “MTA” a bit differently this year compared to past seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.” Luke spent a hefty chunk of time getting grilled in the hot seat and made some comments that elicited many gasps and “boos” from the audience.
These are the seven biggest moments in chronological order from the tense and fiery “Men Tell All.”
1. Hannah moves the rose stand to get away from Luke
Despite having already been sent home, Luke took it upon himself to drive to the rose ceremony in Crete and fight to win Hannah back. Hannah made it clear during their breakup that she saw no future with him and she was tired of his shaming her for having sex. Luke arrived at the rose ceremony just as Hannah was about to pick between Peter, Jed, and Tyler and said that he “needed clarity right now.”
Hannah was not amused by his crashing the rose ceremony. “F—king leave!” she yelled at him. “You’re so narcissistic. It’s always about ‘my this, my that.’ It’s not about your heart. I’m sorry that your heart’s broken, but you’ve broken my heart 15 times during this.”
She then picked up the rose stand and moved it around him to get on with her duties as Bachelorette.
2. Luke doesn’t think he made any mistakes
Chris Harrison asked Luke a plethora of tough questions throughout his time in the center of the room. “Looking back, do you think you made any mistakes?” he inquired after a lengthy discussion.
After a very long pause, Luke replied, “If I could go back, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Cue lots of gasps and whispers from the audience.
Luke later tried correcting himself. “Obviously, going back I would change a lot,” he added. “But I’m thankful it played out the way it did.”
Additionally, Luke told Chris that he viewed his time on the show as a “rescue mission” of sorts. He wanted to “rescue” Hannah from the other men, and that was his mentality from night one.
Chris mentioned that neither Hannah nor Luke was a virgin when coming on the show. He asked if Luke thought it was hypocritical to criticize and shame Hannah for having sex, to which he replied, “Not at all.”
The import/export manager also admitted that he “bold-face lied to Luke S.” and other men in the house. Luke’s line about not wanting to “change a thing” would soon become an oft-repeated phrase once the rest of the men came onstage.
3. Devin crashes Luke’s one-on-one time in the Hot Seat
Speaking of that specific phrase coming back to haunt him, Devin paraded up to the stage unannounced in the middle of Chris and Luke’s discussion.
“There are 2 types of men,” Devin asserted to a very surprised-looking Chris and uncomfortable-looking Luke. “Men that want an independent, strong woman, and there are men that want a woman they can control. You are the man that wants to control a woman so you can feel better about yourself. That’s not a man.”
He continued, “What blows my mind is that you say you’re on a rescue mission, but it seems that the only person who needed rescuing was Hannah, from you.”
4. The men come after Luke
Mike Johnson was the first person to speak up about how Luke’s actions impacted the rest of the house. Mike explained to Luke — who had just said he felt like he “had a target on my back” — that Luke himself put the “target” there, not the other men.
“I feel like we gave him a clear slate, but he just went completely out if his lane and continued to do stupid crap. I feel like Luke hasn’t learned anything whatsoever,” Mike shared with Chris and the rest of the audience.
He then spoke directly to Luke: “I think that you are a narcissistic, cantankerous misogynist. I think your future wife is going to be a prisoner of you if you don’t learn how to change.”
Connor Saeli chimed in next. “I want to say I respect you being here because you’re walking into a firestorm. Every single week there was a different situation that you had to apologize for. Actions speak louder than words, and we were waiting for your actions to change,” he said.
On another note, he added, “I wish I said this earlier, but f—k you man. You’re a liar, manipulator, you’re controlling, and honestly, a psychopath. Everything you hear tonight, you deserve.”
Dylan Barbour said, “It’s 2019. You got to wake up and mature. You can’t talk to a woman like that.”
Luke attempted to apologize and admitted he “bold-face lied to some of you” and then asked for their “support” and forgiveness.
Mike said to all of this, “I completely do not accept your apology. You said you wouldn’t change anything, so why would any of us accept your apology?”
5. John Paul Jones throws chicken nuggets
John Paul Jones joined Chris onstage in the Hot Seat and the two talked about JPJ’s fandom and love of chicken nuggets. The host of the show surprised JPJ and the crowd with the news that they’d all be getting chicken nuggets! John Paul Jones then starting tossing them to people in the crowd.
Perhaps he should consider a future in the MLB?
One ecstatic fan even came onstage and snipped off a piece of his hair. John Paul Jones — the man who never ceases to amazing Bachelor Nation.
6. Hannah puts Luke in his place
Hannah came onstage at the end of the show and had a few minutes of her own in the Hot Seat. She spoke candidly with some of her exes, including Mike and Garrett. However, most of her time onstage was rehashing her relationship with Luke and how she feels now.
“I will never say the feelings I had for Luke weren’t real. That was the closest thing to love at first sight I’ve ever had. But a lot of that came from being really insecure about being the Bachelorette,” Hannah revealed. “Luke arrived and he gave me hope that he was there for me, and I held out hope for a lot longer than I should have. I’m so happy that relationship is behind me and I learned a lot. I deserved so much more than what I put up with.”
When the topics of Fantasy Suites came up, Hannah told the crowd that “Luke is obsessed with sex and Fantasy Suites being about sex.” Chris asked if she “felt shamed” during their time together, and she replied, “Well, yeah.”
She then told Luke directly, “Fantasy Suites aren’t used for sex, Luke. You didn’t have one, so you don’t know, but Fantasy Suites aren’t used for sex.”
In terms of finally realizing what other men had been telling her all along about Luke, she explained that their one-on-one in Crete was the moment when everything “snapped.”
She said, “I needed to see it and feel it for myself. That night I felt it and saw it for myself and that was when it snapped for me. Now I will not put up with this because that’s not love. That’s not what the person who I’m going to spend the rest of my life with will make me feel. I’m so over being slut-shamed and being felt like that makes me not a woman of faith.”
7. Hannah’s message to America
Before signing off for the night, Hannah had one final message to say to the entire country and all of Bachelor Nation. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for this whole thing with Luke and him just being on our television screens for so long — way longer than any of us ever desired.”
She continued, “It’s my fault. A lot his, but I did it. I’m tired of talking about him. The Luke P. show is canceled. We will not renew the season. My apologies, and God bless the United States of America. Roll Tide!”
