How Arie & Lauren Luyendyk Picked Their Daughter Alessi's Name
Arie and Lauren Luyendyk’s decision to name their daughter Alessi wasn’t instantaneous.
The Season 22 Bachelor and Lauren joined Rachel Lindsay and guest co-host Joe Amabile over the phone for a new episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour.” Arie and Lauren discussed their lives as new parents and some of the biggest learning curves along the way.
“Parenting is hard,” Lauren said. “People make it look way easier than it is.”
Arie and Lauren shared with Rachel and Joe the lengthy process of picking a moniker for their baby girl. Lauren said, “At first we thought it was a boy, so we obsessed with finding on a boy’s name for a month-and-a-half. We finally decided, and then the day we decided on a name, we found out it was actually a girl.”
They quickly had to make a 180-degree turn with names. Lauren continued, “I looked up every girl’s name online and I was reading them to Arie for two days straight and finally I came across Alessia, and he said, ‘What if we drop the a so it’s Alessi?’ We both just thought it sounded pretty, so that’s how we did it.”

Arie joked, “I thought it would be funny to name a boy Harrison as a first name.” That would be the ultimate tribute to the man who officiated their wedding and then some!
Lauren and Arie also quickly shut down any and all rumors that she’s pregnant with their second child. Lauren said, “I don’t know where that came from. People were asking me and I was like, ‘Do I look fat or something?’ No, we’re putting that off for a while.”
Arie said he and Lauren will likely have another kid, but that will be “in a couple years.”

Lauren explained how it felt to hold Alessi for the first time after giving birth. “Obviously, I loved her before I saw her but it was bizarre to me because I didn’t know her yet,” she shared. “I made up in my mind what she was going to look like, how she was going to act, and when I first met her, it didn’t feel like those things matched up, so I had to get to know her after that.”
