Trista & Ryan Sutter Vow to Help Set a Romantic Guinness World Record
Trista and Ryan Sutter are pitching in to help break a Guinness World Record.
According to online publication Cruise Critic, the “Bachelorette” Season 1 couple will be officiating a large vow-renewal ceremony with Princess Cruises on February 11. While they’re on the ship Royal Princess on the West Coast, “The Love Boat” stars Gavin MacLeod and Jill Whelan will perform the same duties on the Regal Princess in the Caribbean.
Together, they hope to make this the largest vow-renewal ceremony at sea ever recorded, just in time for Valentine’s Day. There will even be adjudicators from Guinness World Records on each ship.
They need 1,201 participants to break the record.

The five-day West Coast cruise starts off in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and ports in Los Angeles. The weeklong Caribbean cruise departs from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and stops in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel, Mexico.
Trista and Ryan spoke to Cruise Critic about why they’re looking forward to participating in the ceremony. The inaugural Bachelorette explained she is “a big proponent of vow renewals” because it “refocuses your attention on each other.”
They renewed their own vows for their 10th wedding anniversary (they rang in 16 years of marriage in December), but instead of planning something overly elaborate, they celebrated it in Beaver Creek, Colorado, where they live. Trista explained, “We made it small and it was really special to us.” She hopes she and Ryan can “provide this same feeling to people on this cruise.”
Additionally, Trista sees cruises as an ideal locale for this relationship milestone. “Cruise ships focus on romance, and they want you to focus on each other,” she said.
Ryan and Trista’s kids, Maxwell and Blakesley, will join them for the potentially record-breaking moment. Trista thinks their kids will “enjoy their independence onboard,” but most of all, they want to focus on “having quality family time together.”

This isn’t the first big moment Trista and Ryan have had with a cruise ship. In 2008, they christened the ship Ruby Princess and became the vessel’s godparents.
The cruise will have to compete with Aruba, which also hosts its own vow renewal ceremony on the beach during the summer. In 2018, the event broke records as more than 500 people relived their nuptials under the Caribbean sunset. Season 7 “Bachelorette” couple Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum even took part in the big event.
Plus, Peter Weber’s parents had their own ceremony on the first episode of “The Bachelor,” which also served as the Bachelor’s first one-on-one date of the season.
Best of luck, Trista and Ryan!
