The couple, who met on Season 23 of "The Bachelor," announced their separation in Instagram posts Friday. They each uploaded photos from moments in their relationship, including their disguises from after the show finished filming.

He wrote, "It's been a crazy few months to say the least, Cass and I have been doing a lot of self-reflecting. Sometimes people are just meant to be friends - and that’s okay. We both have grown immensely and been through so much together - so this isn’t the end of our story, it’s the start of a whole new chapter for us."

Similarly, Cassie explained in her caption that speaking out about their breakup was not an easy thing to do. She began, "First off, I want to say this is one of the hardest things I have had to share as neither one of us is quite ready to talk about it yet. However, because our relationship is such a public one, our silence on the matter has been speaking for us."

Her caption continued, "Colton and I have broken up, but have decided to remain a part of each others lives. With all that we have gone through, we have a special bond that will always be there. I love Colton very much and have an enormous amount of respect for him. We have both learned and grown so much these past couple years, and will always have each others back. Always."

He commented on her post with a heart emoji.

Colton and Cassie quarantined together at the beginning of the stay-at-home orders when he revealed he had been diagnosed with COVID-19. He commended Cassie for helping nurse him back to health. After recovering, he returned to his hometown of Denver, Colorado, with his newly adopted dog Zooka to spend time with his family.

During Colton’s season of “The Bachelor,” he famously jumped over a fence in Portugal after Cassie broke up with him. He eventually won her back and they continued with their relationship as they celebrated their one-year anniversary in November.

In September, they fended off breakup rumors and spoke out against claims that they split up. She wrote in a lengthy note, "Colton and I are very happy and our relationship is in a good place. Is our relationship perfect? No, it is very normal with its ups and downs and compromises. Despite the microscope on our relationship, we are trying to stay focused on what is important and grow in the direction of getting stronger and closer every day."
