How to Flirt, According to Rachel Lindsay & Kristina Schulman
Flirting isn’t an exact science, and it takes a hefty amount of practice to feel comfortable with it. Each person has their own way of going about it, and flirting is anything but a one-size-fits-all.
Kristina Schulman joined Rachel Lindsay on a new episode of "Bachelor Happy Hour" and the two women gave their best advice on flirting and how to date during the coronavirus pandemic. Rachel and Kristina both have experience honing their flirting tactics on "Bachelor" shows — Rachel as the Bachelorette and Kristina as a "Bachelor in Paradise" veteran.
Kristina believes in the power of emojis, saying they were "created for a reason." She agrees about using GIFs, too, but only "if you can use them appropriately."
That works for text, but in-person flirting is a whole other ballgame.
Rachel shared, "Back in the day, you didn’t have emojis or GIFs. To flirt with people, you had to be creative with your words or send a picture — a tasteful picture, I might add."
What, then, are we to do?
Kristina offered, "What I’ve noticed that may work, certain things that you can do yourself and you know that you can, let the significant other do it for you so you make them feel needed and valued. If you left a jacket, you can carry your own jacket, but leave it on purpose. You can say, 'Oh shoot, my jacket.' And they’ll say, 'Oh, let me get it for you.'"
Rachel loved that suggestion and commended Kristina for her "game."
The Season 13 Bachelorette explained that she’s a "touchy-feely person," so she often employs that trait when flirting. "I think a way to flirt is a soft caress," Rachel said. "If they laugh, maybe laugh and touch their shoulder or leg very quickly. It’s a very engaging thing. It’s very endearing and men love that. Even with the eyes, the slight smile."
Kristina seconded the notion of laughing at jokes, but Rachel urged everyone to "laugh, not cackle."
She asserted, "Don’t throw your head back. It’s not sexy. Just a coy little ‘heh,' or something playful."
Touching can be, well, a touchy subject now due to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing measures. Kristina said, "I do agree with the touching, but I was hesitant to say now, during this time, how much touching can be done. The back, the forearm, but you don’t want to touch them the wrong way."
For anyone going on dates during the pandemic, Kristina offered up hiking as a great way to get to know someone while maintaining distance and staying active. If hiking isn’t an option, outdoor activities or coffee work just as well.
When it comes to kissing during COVID-19, Kristina and Rachel both urged caution and taking things slowly. Rachel said, "If they have a problem with this, then you know you don’t want to deal with them."
