Bryan Abasolo Praises Wife Rachel Lindsay for How She Handled 'Extra' Interview with Chris Harrison
Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo convened for a special episode of “Talking It Out,” during which they discussed Chris Harrison’s recent “Extra” interview with Rachel Lindsay regarding current “Bachelor” contestant Rachael Kirkconnell and her past racist actions.
Bryan praised his wife, Rachel Lindsay, for how she handled the interview, during which Chris failed to condemn Rachael Kirkconnell’s behavior.
“I was appalled just like everybody else. [Rachel Lindsay] sent me the video right away … I was two minutes in and my mouth was open. I was like, ‘Whoa, what is going on?’” the Miami-based chiropractor recalled. “It didn’t feel good watching my wife sit up there and get disrespected like that.”
Bryan — who married Rachel in 2019, two years after falling in love on “The Bachelorette” Season 13 — continued, “I want to give a shout-out to my wife, Rachel Lindsay Abasolo, for showing so much strength, so much composure, and professionalism during that interview.”
Bryan then pointed out a portion of Chris’ conversation with Rachel that he found particularly problematic.
“Going back to that interview, what struck me the most was that she was asked the question, disrespectfully I might add, ‘Who the hell are you?’” Bryan said, before describing his spouse’s significance as the first Black person to lead the Bachelor franchise 15 years after its inception.
“Well, I’ll tell you who she is, Chris. She’s Rachel mother--king Lindsay, a strong Black woman, a pioneer in this franchise, the realest Bachelorette who tells it like it is, and, quite frankly, the best thing to ever happen to this franchise,” he continued. “That’s who she is. So that’s what I have to say about that. To me, that’s what upset me the most.”
Elsewhere, Bryan explained that his respect for Chris has diminished. “I was very disappointed. Chris Harrison is someone that I respected highly. And, not gonna lie, I definitely lost respect for him after watching that interview,” he said. “I thought what he said was irresponsible. It was hurtful. It was flat-out unacceptable.”
In response to Chris’ interview, the cast of “The Bachelor” Season 25 banded together to release a statement denouncing “any defense of racism” and sharing their support for Rachel Lindsay, who made history as the franchise’s first Black lead on Season 13 of “The Bachelorette” in 2017. The men of “The Bachelorette” Season 16 released their own statement, standing in solidarity with the women of Season 25.
Chris apologized twice for what he said in his interview with Rachel Lindsay on Wednesday and again on Saturday, the latter of which included his announcement of a temporary hiatus. Meanwhile, Rachael Kirkconnell apologized for her racist actions on Thursday. Read their statements, each shared via Instagram, below:
