Mike Johnson Explains Why Honesty Is Crucial in Romantic Relationships
Mike Johnson discussed the importance of honesty in romantic relationships on the latest episode of “Talking It Out.”
As the beloved Bachelor Nation star expressed to his co-host, Bryan Abasolo, telling your partner the truth — “even if it hurts like hell” — will always be your best bet.
“So many times, we aren’t honest with ourselves even if it hurts like hell. We may know that that person’s not right for us, but we stay in something because we don’t want to hurt that other person,” said the “Making the Love You Want” author, who is in the process of becoming a certified Intimacy Coach.
“Just be honest, because it’s so simple. You will avoid so much BS. You may get what you want even faster,” he continued. “No matter what it is that you want — whether it’s sex, whether it’s a relationship, whether it’s to go out just to get some food, or have a workout partner — just be transparent, be honest.”
However, Mike said that a fierce commitment to honesty comes with a “caveat.”
“Don’t be honest and an a--hole. You’ve gotta have some level of conversation,” he elaborated. “Don’t be like, ‘Hey babe, you wanna smash?’ That’s the stupidest thing ever. If that’s what you want to do, there is a way of being honest, being respectful, and being direct. She may want it more than you.”
The handsome Air Force veteran went on to remind listeners that “women and men both thrive off of” honesty. “If you’re honest with that person, it may hurt them more, but they will have way more respect for you going forward in life,” he said. “And that’s what people have got to understand.”
