'Talking It Out': Relationship Expert Diann Valentine Tells Mike Johnson & Bryan Abasolo 'What Women Want'
ove guru Diann Valentine stopped by “Talking It Out” to impart her expertise to co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo.
During her interview, the multihyphenate — who, in addition to her role as a relationship expert, is an author, TV host, and celebrity event planner — told the “Bachelorette” alums “what women want” in a romantic partnership.
“There’s a simple answer and a long answer. So, I’ll start with the short answer: women want love,” she explained. “That’s all it is to it.”
Diann went on to note how she believes the communication styles of men and women contrast.
“And I think that the challenges that come about with men and women in relationships is that we speak two different languages. Women want love and men want respect,” she continued. “And it’s finding where that intersection is, so that both people in the relationship are fulfilled and happy.”
To drive her point home, Diann discussed how she edits her own verbal interactions with her husband, businessman Damon Haley.
“Communication is really important in relationships. We hear that all the time. But it’s also important for women to understand the characteristics of how men communicate and vice versa,” she said. “So I want to have a conversation with my husband. My normal conversation is about 300 words. My husband’s conversation is about 30 words. So, when I communicate, it’s important that I give him short sound bites. I think, for women, that’s a really good tip.”
Diann elaborated, “If you need to tell a story, if you need to communicate something, you don’t have to give him the version you would give your girlfriend. There’s nothing wrong with giving him a truncated version [that is] direct and to the point, wrapped around some loving words so that, ultimately, you get what you want.”
