Experience Hilton Head, South Carolina, Like Rachel Lindsay on 'The Bachelorette'
There’s a reason why travel publications name Hilton Head, South Carolina, as the “Best Island in the U.S.” and one of the finest in the entire world! From top-notch golf courses and pristine beaches to awe-inspiring nature preserves and jaw-dropping culinary options, you’ll never want to leave once you set foot here.
Rachel Lindsay traveled to Hilton Head on Season 13 of “The Bachelorette,” and here’s how you can have a vacation just like the Bachelorette.
Where to Stay
If you want to fully follow Rachel’s itinerary for her time in the Lowcountry, book a room at Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. The hotel is in direct proximity to the beach, but if you don’t feel like getting your feet sandy just yet, head to their pool or wander around their tropical grounds. No matter what, you and your date won’t want to miss sitting near the water and watching the spectacular sunset together. Don’t forget to cheers!
One-on-One Date: No Bluffing
While in Hilton Head, immerse yourself in the Lowcountry spirit and visit the neighboring town of Bluffton. Rachel and her date went to a park in town and even got to ride around in the Goodyear Blimp!
Although flights on the blimp are by invitation only, you can still see Hilton Head and the surrounding region from above on a helicopter tour. Later in the day, you and your date can enjoy a romantic dinner together. Rachel and her date attended a Russell Dickerson concert, so wherever you end the day, whip out your speakers and let his songs serenade you in the background.
It’s time for your love to take flight, because it’s going to be a good(year) trip!
Group Date: Bonding Aboard 'The Vagabond'
With such close proximity to the water, you and your date (or group date) won’t want to miss an opportunity to sail South Carolina’s seas. You can start your day by satisfying all types of hunger cravings at Shelter Cove before setting off on a cruise aboard The Vagabond.
To channel Rachel and her group date, check to see if you can book a 21-and-older ride and pop some champagne bottles. After a drink or two, test your date’s knowledge by challenging them to a spelling bee, just like Rachel. Sounds like a ton of F-U-N!
One-on-One Date: Aw, Shucks!
Since you are on a romantic trip after all, don’t be afraid to indulge in one of the region’s specialties, which also happens to be an aphrodisiac: oysters! You and your date can whet your palate at Old Oyster Factory, a waterfront restaurant known for its views and cuisine.
If you happen to visit the city in March, don’t miss out on Hilton Head’s famous “Shuckin’ and Shaggin’” event, which features live music and dancing. Hilton Head also has an oyster festival towards the end of the year.
If you and/or your date love golf, you can head to Colleton River Club for a round of the sport, or to dine at one of their restaurants. No matter what you decide, you’ll want to see the sky change colors as your day turns to evening.
Hilton Head feels like a world away with its small-town charm, stunning beaches and nature, and fabulous food. This is one U.S. city you won’t want to miss!
