Marquel Martin Thanks Bachelor Nation for Their Support as He Recovers from Heart Failure Episode: 'God Bless You All'
“Bachelorette” Season 10 alum Marquel Martin is recovering from a heart failure episode, which he opened up about in a Tuesday Instagram post.
“Hey all, I wasn’t going to share this but I feel terrible for missing all of the calls, emails and texts. Sunday evening while I was at dinner with the wifey, I was passing out due to heart failure caused by exhaustion and extreme dehydration. I guess you can say I nearly worked myself to death these past few months,” the CAA marketing agent captioned a series of photos from Las Vegas’ Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center.
“For those who don’t know, in 2016, I was diagnosed with a genetic heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy so this can happen,” Marquel continued. “Thankfully my defibrillator did not go off.”
The franchise star went on to say that he is doing better now. “I’m NOT posting for sympathy, I’m GREAT now back home resting and back on email and text, thank God,” he wrote. “Moral of the story, I learned my lesson of the importance of finding time to take care of my health amongst the work. Because if I’m going to continue to earn success I need to be here to do it.”
Marquel ended his post by thanking fiancée Kari Kaisner “for always being by my side.” Later, after receiving an outpouring of love from Bachelor Nation figures and fans, he wrote in his comments section, “God bless you all. Got me tearin up over here and s--t.”
During a December 2020 interview with BachelorNation.com announcing his engagement to Kari, Marquel opened up about their relationship and how she supported him through his health struggles. In late 2016, Marquel discovered his heart condition, was given a defibrillator, and lost a job not long after having surgery to implant the device.
“My whole world turned upside down,” he recalled at the time. “One minute I thought I was this hot young bachelor. And then the next I had suffered all these setbacks and lost all my confidence. But she pulled me out of my depression. She showed me love, she prayed with me, and lifted my spirits any way she could.”
